I have used my new '04 flocked head full bodies 4 or 5 times. I have not babied them in any way and carry them to the field in the back of my pick up. My question is, should I cover the heads? They look fine now, but I want them to last. They are awesome decoys. I used 9 of them around a power hunter in a harvested soybean field the other day, and had geese landing on my head. Perhaps this topic has been covered, but I was just curiuos for some ideas, or not to do anythning special at all. Thanks for your help.

I would recommend getting the 6-slot full body bags. I use them for all my full bodies. The bags are great for storing in the trailer and also for carrying in the field. The other option is to cover the heads with a sock or a pair of nylons.

Kraig's response is dead-on, and either method is good. However, if you are using socks I would strongly suggest the use of black socks. White ones leaves white lint on the heads...

The 6 slot full body bags are awesome. If you do not have any, use panty hose to cover the heads. Cut up a pair to cover about 5 or 6 heads. Try not to use white socks because they tend to leave behind white pieces of cotton on the heads. I hope this helps.

I have to agree with the others. Nylons stretch easier and are easier to get on and off. Socks are a little tougher and might add a little more protection. I will caution that my pup LOVES to play with the nylons so just be careful where you put them after you take them off or you will get holes in them.

Those responses are the best you'll find. The only way that the flocking will come off is from excessive rubbing. Of course rubbing will wear anything out. Do you have a trailer? In Fred’s trailer we built shelves to hold the decoys. We are still tweaking them a little but they will work incredibly. I would definitely recommend that you put black socks over the heads. The 6-slots speak for themselves in my opinion.

Bret,
Can you post pictures of the shelves in Fred's trailer when you get them tweaked?

Instead of panty hose, I use ladies black knee high stockings. The lady at the store sure looked funny at me when I went through the till with a couple boxes of them. I'm gettting the last laugh though, as my flocked heads look great.

On the subject of flocked heads, I was curious if anyone had tried treating theirs with something like Scotch-Guard. I wouldn't think that would cause any problems and would help them be more resistant to moisture. I don't know how much moisture would affect them in the first place, but I can't imagine it would be good for those things to repeatedly get wet. Maybe it would help with the heads when the decoys get frost on them? Any thoughts guys?

Mike,
Judging by all the posts here, I am thinking of putting together a Pro-Staff Committee that will research all the available female hosiery products that can be used for protecting the GHG flocked heads. It will be called the "Panty Hose Panel" and you are the likely candidate for Chairman. Any photos of panty hose should show them being used on the decoy heads and not committee members from the panel!! :D

p.s. The lady in the store looked at you funny because even she knew that the fishnet stockings you were purchasing won't protect the decoys.

Just be sure that the line is straight on the back of the stockings.

I did what Hungle did and put them in 6-slot decoys bags. I used black nylons, the anklet type. These fullbodies look almost brand new. Like Mike said, you will get some strange looks.

I have heard alot of concerns regarding the flocked heads getting wet. I will try this the best I can but if Bret, Travis, Rick or Rob could fill in what I leave out or anyone else for the matter. I'm just wonder if everyone is aware of the new process in which the flocking is being done on the '04 heads. The process being used is done electro statically giving the heads an magnetic type reaction thus drawing the flocking particals to the head standing them on end. As opposed to the after market flocking kits that use glue, and the flocking particals lay flat. I believe because of the process that we use, we have a much more weather proof product then the after market products everyone is used to.
Hopefully I'm not to far off in my explanation of this...

Rusty,
I will post some pictures of the trailer when we get it right. No Problem! A quick explanation of how they are is this: We use a lot of motion stakes, so on one side of the trailer we made shelves that are angled 45 degrees and had hooks spaced out to hold the foot baseless decoys. One the other side we simply made shelves for decoys with foot bases. These shelves are parallel to the ground. Like I said we need to tweak it a little bit to make it right.
I will post pictures as soon as this is completed.
Thanks,

Thanks for all the replys. I will look into the 6 slot decoy bags. Do you use socks/hose also when using the bags?

Where can I look at the full body bags? Boy that sounds wild, body bags, I can't seem to find them on the Avery websiter, only duck decoy bags. Thanks for your help.

This topic has taken off and got me thinking, maybe Avery should start making some kind of cover to put over these flocked heads??
Kinda like protecting the head on a golf club, shadowgrass, MAX4 covers,or just plain black with an Avery logo....
What do you think??
GUYS!! GUYS!! PLEASE YOURE GOING TO GIVE US ALL WHO READ THIS FOR THE QUALITY INFO NIHGTMARES WITH ALL THE PANTYHOSE WEARING TALK!!! PICS OF THAT ALONE WOULD SCARE THE BIRDS OUT OF THE SKY!! BUT BE SURE TO KEEP THAT LINE DOWN THE BACK OF THE LEG STRAIGHT!! JK LOL:eek:
ON THE FLOCKING TOPIC IVE USED MY 16 THIS SEASON 11 TIMES. WE DONT TREAT THEM ANY DIFFERENT THAN A REG DECOY, THERE HOLDING UP GREAT (A FEW DINGS BUT I CAN LIVE WITH THAT CONSIDERING WHAT WE PUT THESE THINGS THROUGH IN A BOAT)
THE WATER DOESNT REALLY SEEM TO EFFECT THE 04'S. WE'LL SEE WHEN THE ICE HITS.
