I feel like all of you guys were out there suffering with me today. I got out for my first big duck hunt of the year after our season opened on Saturday. A buddy of mine couldn't draw out either Saturday or Sunday so we all headed out this morning.

It was raining pretty good and our lease isn't ready yet so we headed for public ground. I got up to the window and drew the famous # 1! We hunted a decent blind and it rained all day long....and then stopped when we started picking up decoys!

This was the first time I had the GHG life-size mallards out (except for a short time during teal season) and was I ever impressed. The ducks worked awesome and I'm sure the decoys helped. All the ducks wanted to sit in the pocket next to the GHG's.

I wouldn't have made it through the day if not for the floating gun case, pit bag and gauntlet gloves. I was really thanking Avery by the time the hunt was through.

Not to mention an awesome hunt, we had an awesome variety of ducks. We killed mallards, gadwall, wigeon, greenwing and bluewing teal, a shovler, a couple of woodies and a sprig pintail.

My first duck was a greenwing. After retrieving it I was almost back to the blind when I doubled on wigeon. I later shot a single drake mallard that couldn't stay out of the decoys and then a gadwall. I then saw a duck high up and worked it for about 5 minutes but it wouldn't finish. It was a sprig pintail. I said to the others, "Man, that would make the day to finish out a 6 duck limit with a sprig." About 10 minutes later 3 ducks came over and I finished with a sprig!

Now I will note this...I had never killed a wigeon before! It was one duck I have always wanted and missed a few, but never connected on one. Also, that was only the 2nd sprig that I've killed!

It was a horrible weather day. Misting rain then heavy rain and back and forth. The ducks didn't seem to care however. I'm glad I had an awesome hunt thanks to some great Avery products that helped decoy birds and helped keep me high and dry.

I'll always remember todays hunt! This is one of those that will stick with you till the day you die! Thanks Avery!

I have had some of my best duck hunting days in the same kind of weather you described.
Congrats on such a memorable hunt!

NWMO - Wheres the pictures???????? Glad you had a great hunt. I was out this weekend for divers, and aside from my gun jamming every time I pulled the trigger, and not being able to hit a THING on Sunday, it went pretty well!

Mark, we really wanted to get pictures, but the weather didn't help. One guy was going to bring his digital camcorder but the battery was dead. And with all the rain I left the digital cam in the pit bag so I didn't ruin it. By the time we got back to the ramp we were all just ready to head home and get dry again.

I'll be sure to get pictures next time!

I am right there with you NWMOhunter. I went Saturday morning got drawn half way decent and the fun started. We put out around 4-5 dozen GHG mallards, 12 GHG GWT, 6 GHG woodies, and 12 GHG pintails. We had greenwings dive bombing the teal dekes all morning. We shot 9 and then decided to wait on some big ducks. We had 4 pintail hens land in the pintail dekes right in the pocket and swam around for at least 15 minutes like nothing was going on. They hauled tail out of their when we busted a pair of greenheads after they locked up at about 200 yards out. We killed both mallards and the slowest pintail hen to end our day. All in all I would say the today was one of the most exciting hunts my buddy and I have ever had.

:D Thanks AVERY :D
