I've got a jillion G&H shells that I've been using for the last few years. I just recently picked up 2 dozen new GHG shells.

Is it ok that I mix these in w/ the G&H shells that have? They have very different color to them, than the G&H's. Wondering if the geese care?

I won't hurt a thing to mix them.

It wont hurt to mix them up. As far as color goes the GHG's are pure goose so you know they wont be the problem. For added movement you can put all your shells on Universal Motion Stakes. I would put the GHG's in the kill hole and fill with the rest.

Sivart,

Mixing them: Yes you can mix them up and have success but it may also hurt you with the educated birds.
I would recommend keeping the separated in the field. I would use the G&H decoys as my outside decoys and concentrate my Greenhead Gear decoys in the honey hole or your shooting pocket.
This way you have the most realistic looking decoys in the area where the birds are focusing on.

If you start to notice that you are having difficulty finishing birds I would recommend taking out the G&H and hunting over just the GHG decoys. Sometimes just the littlest details make a world of a difference.

Do you just hunt over shells or do you mix in fullbodies as well?

I would put your best looking decoys to the edges and the pocket where you would like them to finish. Use the not so good looking decoys as fillers.

Thanks,

I don't have any fullbodies yet, but it's on my wishlist. My goal is to eventully retire the G&H shells, but right now I have to make due.

I wonder if it would be better to just hunt under the 24 new shells, and not use the others at all? What would you guys do?

sivart, It depends on the area your hunting. Are you near a feeding or roosting area? If so, or if you can get on the ''X'' the 24 will work.

If you are running traffic,IMO, I would use all the decoys you have to make your spread more appealing to resemble a feeding flock which will inturn, be inviting to passing geese.

I have GHG snowgoose shells and have fullbodies for this year, But I also have about 60 or so old G&H shells. I'm running traffic most of the time, so I want all the decoys I can get out in the field, to increase my chance of decoying snows.

Good luck to you!

If you decide to get rid of the G&H shells let me know.

Here's what I think you should do...

Sell your G & H shells and invest in some newer decoys. If you have a lot of them you should be able to sell them and have enough money to buy at least a dozen more decoys. Even if you only get 100 bucks for your decoys that's almost a free dozen shells, or a dozen real geese pro series, or 6 full bodies. I'd sell and invest in some newer dekes. I did that this year and I have absolutely no regrets at all. My spread is 1 dozen GHG Shells, 6 GHG FB Feeders, and 12 real geese pro's. I will be adding at least 6 more FB's for next season and probably something else. But that's just my opinion take it or leave it.

If you are set on keeping the other shells, I would do like some of the others have mentioned. Use the most realistic decoys where you want the geese to finish...in the hole. The birds will hit where these decoys are for sure.

If you run into a cold weather situation it will not hurt you to just use the shells. When the weather gets cold geese will typically pull their feet up and rest like a shell would. Otherwise I feel it will not hurt to mix your decoys.
