Hello guys,

I'm Jacob from Roanoke, Virginia. After I browsed this forum for a while, I decided I had to join this forum.

I've been an Avery believer/customer/user for 3 yeares now and I can't see ever owning any other decoys. Currently I own 2 dozen '04 Mallrds and only 4 '04 Canada Floaters (Actives) and just as soon as I can figure out how to, I'm going to buy some new Black Ducks too because I just saw them on the net for the first time last week and umm... Dang. That's all I can say really.

Beautiful products for serious killers!

That's us right?

Looking forward to joining the discussions,

Scary :D

Welcome Jacob. This here is the premiere spot to discuss GHG and Avery products. I've been using their products for a couple of years myself, and I find it hard to purchase any other products....with as good as quality and value.

Hey Jacob, good of you to stop by. Ole Jacob has a way of stringing together a story if you can get him to tell one. You coming back out this fall or staying east?

Wow,

You guys sure know how to make a guy feel welcome...

Troy,

I didn't even put two and two together that you were on this forum too. (I'm a little slow sometimes).

*Quick history lesson* I met Troy through a mutual goose killin' freind Scott. Scott ended up gettin' me in on a couple hunts with your very own Troy Bailey. We slammed some ducks on a beautiful Nebraska pond where I shot my much coveted first Canvasback. I still talk of that hunt every time me and Scott play long distance catch up. Troy is a real class act...also, word on the street is he can call a goose or two also. That never hurts. You're all in good hands...wow, what a small world.

Anyway, yes, I plan to actually split my Nebraska killing spree into two segments this year. I wanna get out there for a month during general Duck and then for another month of Spring Whitey killin' too. I've gotten into some curiously interesting situations here in Ol' Virginy that need my full attention this winter... I think I'm gonna try to kill some Sea Ducks, Brant and a Swan this year. I've talked to quite a few new contacts. Hehe lemme know if you feel like some East-Coast big water free-lancing...I'll personally make room for ya. Thanks for the help with the goose call thing too btw.

Sorry to post and then dead-key like that...I went out of town for the weekend. I'll try to stay regular as much as I can. This forum is the equipment freak's dream come true!

Thanks again guys!

Christian,

Thanks,

I guess I should add that I'm different than a lot of duck/goose hunters...I'm from the school of "Hunt no matter what". I live in the only part of the country that IS NOT in a designated flyway...The Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. I do whatever it takes to kill birds in areas that biologists say they don't exist. Last year my brother shot one of the first recognized Mallard/Black Duck Hybrid bird bands in the State and our list of dead bird species grows larger every year. I'd say we are doing pretty good for an area that "No birds migrate through". Oh yea, the band was from Ontario, so yea they do "fly through".

When I was a kid, it was common practice for us to hunt from sun-up to sun-down and be happy as heck regardless of what died that day. None of the text-book methods of standard waterfowl hunting seem to produce birds in our area of "DUCK VOID" so we've tailored new methods of creepin', sneekin', skullin', floatin', and outright cheatin' these birds out of their lives. One of the newest dirtiest most unfair advantages we figured out was the use of GHG decoys a couple years ago. They are the closest thing to baiting you can get.

Over the years I came to be driven mad by the few birds in my area so I became what I call a "gearhead" or someone who studies the newest waterfowling equipment and their effect on the death of birds. Through mail order catalogs and department stores, I became obsessed (literally) with better equipment (it should be dually noted that the obsession was also provoked from being poor and not having any decent gear when I was a kid) so through my quest for awesome gear that is also affordable, I stumbled onto the Greenhead Gear / Avery company. Since I've explored their stuff, I've been addiocted both as an increasingly efficient bird killer and "gearhead".

Thanks for feeding the addiction guys.

GHG is like cigarette smoking for ducks.

Thanks DeWayne,

ScarySouthernMan is an alter ego that I invented about three years ago. As I mentioned earlier, I regularly fly out to Nebraska to go hardcore with a growing list of friends including your very own Troy Bailey.

When I first arrived out there, a few of the people I met thought that because of my monsterous frame (I'm 6 foot 8 inches tall...lol...try buying waders) and my grizzled beard and long hair that I had a bit of a "scary" look about me. Also, I don't know if you've had the oppurtunity to experience a Nebraskan accent, but it's a far cry different than that of a Virginia mountain boy's. So from that came the official tag... Scary Southern Man.

Counting the days,
