Im going to purchase some GHG fullbody canadians tomorrow and I was wondering do you buy motion stakes one by one of do they come in a packs of 6 or 4 motion stakes or however many?

They come in dozens. I'm sure you will find that adding the motion stakes to your set will make the decoys come "Alive". Nothing better than keeping the flocks attention as they are coming into range than some life like motion on the ground!

The pack contains a dozen, and they new stakes are long enough to keep your full body goose decoys high enough for realistic motion.

The Universal Motion Stakes do come in dozens and they are 24.5" long.

IF you buy this years decoys the motuion bases and a shorter stake come in the box thats all you will need unless you want them up higher.

In order to carry & keep from breaking my motion stakes, I use a 4' PVC pipe, with an end cap on one end, and a screw on cap on the other. Two dozen stakes fit in it. I painted it camo, and screwed on a camo shotgun sling to carry it with.

I’ve also made a container for my UMS’s. I used a 6 inch diameter piece of galvanized pipe 26 inches long. I have two end caps; one end cap is fixed to the pipe with pop rivets. I wrapped camo duct tape around the pipe and end caps. I have pop riveted metal handles on the removable end cap and on the piece of round pipe. I currently have 36 of the UMS’s in the container and there is room for more.

blacklabbob,
I like your idea (easy and light weight). This will be my first year with motion stakes so this was an unexpected tip.
Thanks

blacklabbob,
How many stakes can you get in your 4" tube?
GooseFlocker,
How many can you get in your 6" tube?

DriftwoodLabs;
I would guess at least 4 dozen. Saw your prior post, and would tend to believe that the metal tube might be a bit lighter than PVC, (depending on the wall thickness of PVC and gauge of sheet metal used). I used 28 ga. galvanized pipe. You really don’t need to pop rivet the connections; duct tape would work fine. You will have to crimp the pipe and/or end caps or purchase pre-crimped material.

Thanks GooseFlocker,
I was thinking schedule 40 pipe, not sheet metal (ventilation piping I assume).
That makes a HUGE difference! redface.gif

I also use PVC pipe I believe mine is 6" with the cap. If I remember I have 3 dz in mine with no problems. I will check next time in my trailer. This method of storage works great.

Attached is a photo of a storage tube I put together. It holds at least 24 UMS's if I remember correctly.

Remember if you buy the new progrades, they will already have 4 of the 6 with motion systems. You will be amazed at the movement!!!!

For those motion stakes and for 2004 GHG full body canadas, do you just drill a hole in the back of the decoy for the stake? My question is can you still use the bases or even just the feet with those stakes?

Alberta,
Yes. Remove the foot base, find the balance point on the back and then drill a hole in which you insert the Real-Motion stake. I do not thin that you can or would want to use the foot bases with the Real-Motion stakes.

Here is a picture of the galvanized sheet metal UMS case I mentioned. There are currently about 36 of the UMS’s in there. I’ll bet you could fit 30 more.

look at decoy dancers wed site. they have a great motion system. there system comes with a base that stays on the decoy and has legs attatched. it is pretty much like the system that avery has for there pro-grade series decoys

Yea i got the green head gear flocked head shells i only have a dozen but im looking to buy some more. are these the ones were you have to drill the hole in there back or is there a stake that you dont have to do that with

To use the MotionStakes on shell decoys, you have to drill holes in them. You have to find the balance point using a screwdriver and drill a 5/16 hole at that point.
Thanks,
Rick

It's a real easy process that once you get the hang of, will take no time. he difference it will make is well worth the effort.
