View Full Version : Motion system on '04 Canadas

Just out of curiosity, since I've seen some inquiries regarding retrofitting the '04s with the new motion system, I took the cone out of one of my full body mallards and put it into an '04 full body Canada feeder. The '04 had been balanced for the universal motion stake and I used the same hole for the cone. The stakes are too short so I used a piece of conduit to raise it up a bit and just slipped the stake designed for use with the cone into the conduit. The decoy came to life, just like the full body mallards. This leads me to believe that if someone wanted to provide a conversion kit for the '04s, they probably could, with a longer stake, but on the other hand they might want to make you buy the 'o5s instead. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Frank

The biggest problem I see with converting is limiting the rocking movement on the older decoys. If you look at your mallards the diameter of the hole is cut so that it allows natural movement yet restricts unnatural movement like the decoy flipping up on its side. With the hole diamters of the 03 and 04's this would cause the decoy to flip too much in stronger winds. Right now the best option for the older decoys is the Universal Moiton Stakes that work really well.

We would love to make a no brainer conversion kit for the 2004's. But after looking at the pieces and time involved, we put it on hold and wanted to take a step back and make sure that if we did ever do it, it would be done right. Thanks for the tips for others though. If you think of anything else, let everybody know.

I also agree that the Universal Motion Stakes are the way to go for motion in the 03 and 04 decoys. The new motion system would probably be to time consuming and not worth it until we come out with a no-brainer conversion kit. We will keep you guys posted.
