View Full Version : Lightweight less expensive fullbodies?

I'll start off by saying that the GHG full body goose decoys are awesome! The only problem is they take up a lot of space and need to be transported to the site in a vehicle. What are the odds that we could get a realistic looking goose decoy made along the lines of the rubber turkey decoys that are so common? (I'm talking about the one's that can be squashed flat and are held in place by a single stake which extends through the body.) They'd have the profile of a full body, be transportable, and cost about half the price. Maybe I'm just a dreamer. Anyone else interested?

PinFeather,
BuckWing makes just the type of product you are looking for. It is the Canada goose version of their collapsible turkey decoy and is available through many of the major hunting retail catalogs as well as many authorized dealers across the country.

I think we have all wished for a decoy like that. The Buckwing fits the bill in all but the most important, IMO, It doesn't look real. When I look at one, it's turkey decoy heritage seeps through. I think decoys are like fishing lures, in that if you don't have confidence in them, you won't be successful. Some guys may think they look great and I'm sure you can hammer em over Buckwings, to each his own.

I've seen those decoys as well. It's true that you can transport a bunch of them in a little space, however for me, the lack of realism just doesn't cut it.

Most of these squish down turkey decoys aren't that inexpensive. They run from $19.99 to $29.99 for a single. That is the same price as a full body goose.

I totally agree with Rick on this one. Why buy a decoy for $20-30 that doesn't look real when you can buy a GHG full body for the same price? I would say the results would be well worth the money spent.

Thanks for the info. I have never seen an actual Buckwing goose decoy, but the pictures looked good so I appreciate the tips that they aren't very realistic. They certainly would be nice for some of the fields I hunt that require me to walk my gear in quite some distance, but realistic decoys get results. I probably can use the extra exercise resulting from a few more trips to the truck for the GHG fullbodies anyway.

This past season while on a trip to ND I ran into the situation of a long trip to where the geese were using, but could not get near them do to recent rain. I took in the only fullbodies I had (6 of them). I decided on them rather than my shells which I could of carried in more of them. I limited on Canadas in short order. Of course I may still of limited if I had taken in the shells, but I think often a smaller number of good fullbodies will do better than a larger number of shells. Of course this is not always true. Get the slotted bags and you can carry in at least a dozen without too much difficulty. The more I have looked into the slotted bags the better they look. That is the route I am shifting to this year.
