Check out the right corner of the photo. Those gads sure are tough on each other. I also captured other images during the same shoot of gadwalls colliding in mid-air. http://img126.echo.cx/img126/5702/dsc03307vb.jpg

Jim, that is an awesome photo. From what I have seen as well, Gadwalls are some pretty mean ducks..

I have seen pintail collide in mid-air, but getting anything like that on film is incredible.
You are the master at photography.
Thanks,

Hey, Jim. What camera do you use and what accessories do you use with it? Your pics are awesome.

Looks to me that it isn't a collision. Given this time of year, and that fact that theres 4 drakes and one hen, he's probably just getting an edge on chasin some tail ;) :D :D

Wow! Jim did it again. I took a photograpy class once where the instructor stated" You will likely take 10-200 photos to get ONE good picture" Using that philosophy, Jim must take 3000 pictures per day. That is a pretty cool picture!

I hope that they are just colliding. They look to be the same sex. If not, you may have just solved some of the reprodution issues.
Thanks,

That is an awesome photo Jim. Hunters need to get out and study birds this time of year so they can better understand them during hunting season.

Google, tell us more about the Gadwall. Looks like he is being aggressive to me. Like two bucks fighting. They are basically rutting right now. Nice shot Jim

It may be a violent attack,I guess only the culprit really knows. From my field viewing Ive only witnessed male aggression on the water. If you have never seen a RAPE FLIGHT youre missing out. This is true terminolgy for several males chasing a lone hen and is most common among Mallards.Several hens will lose their lives to this practice.I have seen hens bloodied rendered flightless as drakes tear feathers from their bodies. As we all know mother nature can be cruel at times but Im sure there is just reason for it
nice pic jim. this time of year is very interesting to watch the waterfowl! from watchin g the different courtship displays to the knockdown dragouts that you might get lucky enough to see. just the other day i watched a goose put some serious hurt on a coot that swam too close to his brood!!!! oh man if that coot couldnt dive i think its head would be on a stick about now!!!!
