Sorry to have to bring up another topic about "paint". i know it is a topic that gets beat to death in just about every forum on the internet.

I have a question that needs answering though...if possible. It was/is my understanding that the Lifesize series Mallards come with a replacement guarantee if there is any paint defect, while the hotbuy carries no such guarantee as a result of not having the same type of protective coating added as an additional final step.

ok, on to the questions...

1 - am i correct in my assumptions?

2 - what is the definition of "defect"

3 - what is the process for determining if the product was in fact defective?

I assure you i am not bringing this up to shed any negative light on your product. to the contrary, i own a number of different types of GHG dekes and not only do i not have any complaints, but i am a big supporter.

thanks,

Ed,

If the paint on the decoy is coming off in pieces about the size of a quarter or larger then you probably have a defect. If not then it would be considered typical wear and tear on the deke.

Thank you for your support.

Ed,

Our return rate on decoys was pretty much non-existent this year. There was a decoy here and there that missed a process, but less than one tenth of a percent. A lot of decoys that customers tried to return were 2003 and 2002 models that really didn't have problems.

Our decoys have a one year warranty. All the decoys are painted the same way. Hot Buys are painted the same as all the other ducks.

Curt was right in his description of what is a defect. On a defect, the paint comes off in big quarter size flakes. Rubbing and scratching are not defects. We have had customers that paint coming off in the size of a pin head is a defect.

Thanks,

Thanks for the clarifications. i know a lot of people were screaming because their dekes got a scratch on them, i don't think this is the case here. i am doing this on behalf of a good friend who had some "issues" and felt it was easier to just write off Avery and GHG as a whole instead of working through the problem. the dekes in question are older versions and i only hope that his waiting to take care of this doesn't hurt him. The problems he described match the descriptions you gave of the defects. ie: large paint chips coming off as opposed to just the rubbing or scratching from hard use.

on a side note - any suggestions for what to use or where i can get some touch up paint for my mallards and widgeon? they are getting a little "thin" in spots from all the hard use and abuse i put them through. (my fault..not yours. i wouldn't expect ANY deke to put up with what i dish out and not get banged up.)
