Jim/Tyson,
I suppose my phone was busy when you tried to call about coming on the hunt. It looks like it was a good time and the kids had fun. That is what counts.
Thanks,
Wayne Radcliffe

I love it! Great work with the camera. Who was shooting the pics, Jim or Tyson? Whoever it was did an awesome job. It is very rewarding to have the talent to be able to put the gun down and pick up the camera. More hunters should give this a try and they will find that they get just as much satisfaction with a great picture as they would with a limit of ducks or geese.
Good Hunting!

I am glad you made it out on Saturday Jim! Today was blustery and misty, so photo opportunities would have been a bit limited.
For those of you who don't know, the pictures were taken on the annual kids hunt in Pierre, SD. On the hunt in which Jim did his photography, we were able to harvest 57 Canadas for the kids. Avery was a sponsor for the event, and every participant was able to receive some great Avery / Greenhead Gear handouts. A special thanks to Tom for this event. Overall, 125 birds were harvested on this hunt between Saturday and Sunday. A special thanks again for Avery's GREAT donations.

Great Job. Tyson with the kids.
Nice photos Jim!
Both of these guys help out with the youth.
Tyson devote his time every year to a youth hunt out of central SD.
Jim also started a youth hunt 2 years ago for kids that are not fortunate enough to have some one to take them out. (single mother or parents that do not hunt)
This event has be a huge success with the help of Avery Outdoors and Jim's hard work.
Kids are our future! Every hunter whether a waterfowl hunter, big game or upland needs to get involved with kids in the outdoors.
Thanks again guys for taking time out of you busy schedules to help these kids out. Also a big thanks to Tom and Allen at Avery Outdoors for always being there for support.

I've been asked on a couple occasions what equipment I use when shooting photos like this. I shoot a Nikon D200, 5 frames/second. I can shoot 25 images in five seconds time. That's fast! I shoot a wide angle 35-70 mm lens with a 2.8 aperture/F stop. That's extremely fast and the fixed 2.8 on the lens allows large amounts of light to enter the camera therefore I can maintain fast shutter speeds and run slow film/ISO speeds. I never push 320 ISO. Faster film speeds aren't as noticeable in 4x6 photo images as well as clarity but it makes a very big difference when bringing them to 16 x 20 size or bigger. The lens also has Nikon's patented silent wave auto-focus. Simply put, you don't hear the auto-focusing sound like ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz like you will in other lenses. This feature is in all of my lenses and quickens auto-focusing time considerably. I usually sit just 15 yards behind the subject and make sure that the birds are always the focal point. If the decoys and gunners lose focus or depth of field it's acceptable but when they're sharp and birds aren't in my opinion you have nothing. Pick an area that you want to photo and keep concentrated on that spot. You just have to hope that birds fall in that frame, if you try chasing them around your success will be very low. Hope this is helpful to all who want to know.
