Travis,

The decoys look great. The visibility that would be gained through some of those dekes in the spread would be awesome. A full body sprig pintail would be a great addition for many reasons but how about just for the simple fact of how sweet they would look.

Mark- Yes, divorces are expensive. Heck, you should try two!

And, YES! Those Black ducks look great!

Travis,

Thanks for posting the pictures. They look awesome. Wayne, you are correct. Full Body Black Ducks will be a big hit on the East Coast.

Thank God there aren't many black ducks in my area or my list of dekes for next year would have grown by 3 dozen. Great looking Full Bodies. Can't wait for the Full Body Pintails, I WILL be picking up a few dozen of those.

Dakota, here in Iowa we don't have a ton of blacks also, but the visibility you will gain with a black decoy will astonish you. Keep that in mind as I believe a darker decoy would help in the visibility department, at least the black milk jugs we use to hunt over when I was a kid on the Mississippi could be seen for miles.

Travis is dead on in my opinion. Where I hunt, Black Ducks are a real trophy meaning that it is definitely not a common occurrence to see these. However, We have a dozen at each of our pits this year simply for visibility. We flew over our farm last week after purposely leaving decoys out. The two decoys that were the most visible from the farthest distance were the Black Ducks and Shovelers.

I hate to change the subject, but is that a Mossy Oak Bottomland skull cap, Travis?

I heard they were going to start making the original Bottomland again, due to customer demand.

Christian, I used to fly every day, weather permitting, scouting for the next day's hunt. I could always see bull sprigs and shovelers before I saw any other duck. Cans show up from a long distance as well. But the thing I saw before I ever saw a duck....was ripples on the water. Those ripples glinted in the sunlight from a loooooong way away.

Nice black duck decoys, too!

Great picture, Travis. The dark body decoys do show up very well. The black hole was a popular set up when I first started goose hunting. The large dark spreads showed up from a long way away.

Those look amazing! We have no black ducks up here, but I am still adding those to the spread. Our brown mallards love them on the water at the start of the season, so full bodies will be great. And how good those look I need to have some anyways, need to fill that decoy fetish.

Rob, it is shadowgrass, but didn't have any grass on that side.

I agree that these will be a big seller on the East Coast and much of the Atlantic Flyway. I have seen more black ducks than ever before this season.

Travis,
You're right. A couple dozen of these would show up great in the stubble fields up here. I just have one problem. I can't stop buying the mallard full bodies :D .

i think fullbody gadwalls and widgeons would be cool too especially gadwalls.

nice looking blacks though....like Rusty said they should sell great on the East Coast.

The black duck decoy's will stand out and can be seen at much greater distances then mallards. Even if your area doesn't hold or have many black ducks the decoy's won't hurt anything. More then likely the will help you more by standing out especially in a field.

That's exactly why I put a half dozen of the OS black floaters in my spread. They show up SO well from a distance on the water.

Travis Mueller
01-10-2006, 10:00 AM
Shawn, we shot one in the cornfields this year, and one down in Sikeston with Christian.
Graap shot a couple up in Green Island as well, so they are to be had, but you're right they still are rare.

All the Avery decoys are extremely good looking and I'm sure a full body Pintail would be no exception, but what kind of demand would there be for them when our limit on Pintails is one a day?

Ill own a dozen next season! Beautiful decoys, they will look great with my full body mallards. We killed three blacks the last day of our late season (sunday) hunting cut corn , we saw many and took 6 for the season!Cant wait till next season!!

Visibilty, it's all about visibility and confidence. A pintail is on of the wariest birds out there, and to have a couple dozen in your spread loafing around one not only increases your visibilty, but also add a ton of confidence to incoming birds.
