I just got some Hunter series dekes and i was noticing the bases are rather visible, and i was also noting that in some pictures they were left visible, and i was wondering if people bothered to cover them or not. I think i will just because the decoys are so beautiful i dont want to take away from them ;)

Thanks

Aaron

We usually try to cover them if we need to. Such as wheat fields that haven't been turned. They are basically invisible in fields that have been tilled or in green pastures. We always cover them in snow however when they would be most visible. The motion bases are AWESOME. You don't have to worry about covering anything.

Aaron,

I have never covered the bases on the FB Canada decoys. Having said that, I am not saying that in certain instances I wouldn't. For example, if I hunted in the snow, I might think about it. The reason I haven't is this...I have never seen a time when the blinds were well hidden and the hunters were covered up that the geese would not finish.

Aaron, to add to what Christian said, I have never covered them in the snow either. If they don't come in, that isn't the reason.

Do you still have those new fullbodies decorating the house?

I'm another one that doesn't specifically cover the bases.

ME I am as anal as they come, and I will cover those things everytime. When I take pictures, this is the only thing where people can tell they were decoys! Just me though. As everyone knows I have a "System."

I also don't cover the bases. The only thing I do to them is spray them with flat black spray paint just to make sure they don't shine.I can see where a person might late season or in a "staled out" time when everything has to be perfect.

Aaron,

I will cover bases when I am hunting pressured geese on bluebird days. I will also cover the bases when hunting in the snow. I do not do anything elaborate. I just kick some dirt or snow with my shoe onto the base

Travis, I think you need to find a way to incorporate not losing your keys in a picked cornfield into the 'system'... tongue.gif

I will cover my bases everytime from opening day until the end, it's just one more thing to eliminate.

I always try to kick some dirt or snow on them when putting them out. I don't think it really matters. The body hides most of the base from a birds perspective.

Thanks for the input guys, and yes Jude i have a looker and a true feeder right here by the computer, whenever i'm feeling out of sorts i pet the flocked heads and it lifts my spirits right back up to where they should be. I have a high looker on my bedside table, an aggresive feeder and an aggressive caller by my dresser, and the rest are in the garage. And i named 8 of them after Santa's reindeer but i ran out of names so any suggestions would be appreciated, and I'm unsure of which one deserves rupolph.... decisions decisions... sorry for the rant,

Aaron

I picked up a bale of hay and did all my full bodies. It blends in with just about all situations.
