View Full Version : Full Body Mallard Heads
Yesterday, I had a 6-slot bag of Full body Mallards fly out of my boat while traveling on the highway.
My heart about stopped when I saw the bag fly out and go tumbling down the road at 60mph.
As a testament to how the 6 slot bags protect the decoys, the only thing damaged was the bill
of 3 decoys that are slightly road rashed from the pavement.
Are replacement heads available for the full body mallards? I'm guessing I would have to call Avery
Customer Service to order them?

I still remember flying down the road with Travis and having a Finisher come out. It had a little road rash, but was still usable.

I am assuming the GHG warrenty only goes up to 45 MPH?
Honestly, if Macks had not been running that deal, i doubt i would have bought a bag. It just seemed like I didn't really need a slotted bag for them; I figured I could make do with a standard decoy bag.
But after seeing the abuse they took on that tumble, and to only have 3 scuffs hardly even worth replacing!
I am sold on the slotted decoy bags! How much more abusive could anybody be to decoys, than to have them skid down a road doing 60?
There is no doubt about it, I'll be ordering the slotted bags for my goose decoys too.
Still laughing about it,
ebow.

Thanks for the story. How did the bag hold up? I know the decoys did fairly well, but what about the bag. How much road rash did it have?
Curt,
The bag held up very well. There was no visible damage that I could see.
As far as i could tell, the bag flipped out and landed 'top down'; basically on the heads of the decoys sticking out. Then from there it just rolled (and rolled and rolled and rolled.....)
Avery Guys,
You seem to appreciate any feedback from the end users of your products, so here is my $.02.
I had 6 field stakes along with a game strap
in the side pocket of my 6-slot bag. When the bag flipped out on the road, the decoys stayed in the bag, but my stakes & game strap went everywhere!
A helpful improvment to these bags (not that they need anything, but if you are redesigning them at all...) would be to put a couple snaps on the side pocket. Nothing fancy like a flap over the pocket, just one or two small, unobstructing snaps that the users could button
the pocket shut if they needed to.
It's just an idea. Ideally the bags should never be turned upside down, but as you well know, waterfowlers are hard on their equipment, so i could see where a fastening system on the pocket could be helpful.

Ebow,
Thanks for the testament. We appreciate feedback of any kind...Also, thanks for the idea on the Slotted bag. It's ideas like this that get the things on the drawing board.

One day we had my buddies S-10 loaded down with FB's headed down the highway about 70, and 3 deeks caught wind and took flight. Little flocking came off and one got some road rash on the breast, but things turned out better than I thought they would..

I've had my buddy's decoy fly out going about 75 on the interstate(not going to say what brand or anything) but I thought it was going to be a lot worse than when I found it. It had a broken tail and was a little scuffed up but is still huntable.
