What type of Avery full bodies will be available. I know the Pintails and black ducks, but what others will there be? Gadwalls, Widgeons?

Mark, we are still discussing which ones will be available. I doubt you will see gadwalls and wigeon. But, we will let everyone know when the time comes. Thanks for the question and we will keep you posted.

is there really a market for gadwalls and wigeon? i know the pintails would do well out west and the blacks in the east. but to me i dont think there would be any other type of full body ducks that would do very well on the market.

I agree with duckboy.

There are certainly needs for FB Blacks and Pintails in a demand that, while may not rival the FB Mallards, should certainly be able to hold their own and demand production runs.

I think a FB Pintail is a must, especially for here in NE. On them sandbars u can see those white chest a long ways away. I think a FB blue or green-wing would be pretty sweet also.

The next Full Body duck will most likely be the Pintail. Black Ducks will be available hopefully around July. Pintails if I was to guess I would say next year. We will keep you posted on all changing events.

Thanks,
Eric

i mean turthfully there only really needs to be 2 head postitions for the pintails a upright sleeper and a upright looker. and really drakes only would be fine with me.

as for other fullbodys like i said awhile ago there would be almost no market for other types of ducks. i think they will add more head postitions over the years like callers, sleepers, and so on.

duckboy,

i agree with you one way...but i would rather have a spread full of fullbody gadwalls and widgeons than i would a spread of Mallards and Pintail. Around my neck of the woods...there are very little mallards and the ones we do see go right for the gadwall or widgeon decoys(we hunt mainly public land). Now i wouldn't mind having a few fullbody Blacks beings we got em half way decent..but they are a pain to get in to your decoys anyway so i'll just settle for the reg. black duck decoys.

It's good to see new things, but few ducks actually spend much time on land and the fullbody duck decoy is only usable in special situations.

I think blacks, mallards, and pins are good. But like mentioned, there won't be enough of a market to sell gads, wigeon, or any other duck species.

I'd rather see Avery expand the floater line until they get all the species needed and then continue adding head/body positions to the existing lines to make them better.

I think with the popularity of field hunting that full body ducks are going to continue to be in hot demand. We generally see and shoot some wigeons, but I have not shot any gadwalls. We may have to look at a wigeon.

I cant wait for the pintail FBs, they will be sweet. With the Drake Pintail will they be able to be stored in the slotted decoy bags with out the "Sprig" being damaged ?

Thanks

I can't wait to see the pintails, but I for one hope the DON'T put much of a sprig if any on the drakes. IMHO they are generally a pain and just tear stuff up.

Thanks for all of the comments, but like Rick and Eric said, we will work on blacks for this year, and Pintails for next year. Thanks.

As Travis said...let's focus on the fine work that they have done with the FB Black for now. I am so excited about a FB Pintail but being realistic, Fred and the carvers can only do so much so fast. I will anxiously, albeit patiently wait to see the Pintails in '07.

Jason, I agree with you on the sprig. When the FB pintails are finished, I would say that they will fit just fine in the slotted bags.

Cory,

I think you will have to put them in the slotted bags with the sprig up. We will have to wait and see how big they are before we can see how they are going to work for sure.

Thanks,

Will - The waterfowl surveys show many more mallards, blacks and pintails than Gadwall and Wigeon. Even in our neck of the woods.

I would be suprised if sales numbers could support it, but a full body wood duck would be the cats hind end for setting on logs and on the edges of ponds.

Now Woodies, I'd be interested (but hard pressed to find a spot where I hunt to rig a pair into my spread! Guess some longer rods so I could prop them up next to a downed tree would work. Since this most likley won't happen, I'll have to try the Full Body Mallards and see how well that works.

I also think a FB wood duck would be great a great addition, but as Tim stated there may not be much of a market for them. But I can't wait for the Blacks and Pintails to come out.

Leave the long tail feathers off of the sprig full bodies. As mentioned, they will get bent, broken and they snag on everything, and I really don't think the ducks care one way or the other. Plenty of younger pintail drakes out there with short sprigs.

Honestly, if they make the sprigs on the full bodies like they did on the floaters ... I dont think there is any chance that they will bend/break. The floaters sprigs are very durable and I have never heard of one breaking off, and I would say they are just about the right length.

But, i haven't seen enough mallards or pintails around to get too excited about. I have seen blacks but around here when don't you see em. Lately when we have been hunting it has been more GWT and Widgeons more than anything, and Gadwalls aren't too far behind. On PUBLIC land we have taken about 125 ducks....and 4 or 5 of which have been mallards  ....about 10 blacks...and no pintails.

Maybe on private land or in fields you might see more mallards and pintails...but we dun have much private duck hunting land as some ppl...but then again money does all the talking in the world.
