After you guys shoot your ducks and geese in fields where do you put them for the rest of the hunt? I've tried using them as sleepers but I was wondering if anyone else had ideas,

Thanks,

Aaron

I too, used them as sleepers this year and I thought it worked out really well. In the past few years we just put them under goose shells.

Aaron,
We do the same with our geese or put them behind the blinds. We just make sure the birds are not belly up in the landing zone for all the birds to see and flair. Same goes for the ducks. Any more questions, feel free to ask.

I like to put them in sleeper mode right out in the open where the birds can get a great view of them, and not be swallowed up by the rig. One thing I have noticed, the more I placed out in the open, the better the birds worked.

sOME INTERESTING COMMENTS...
I have taken a number of phoyos of our set up with a view to seeing where we can improve.... and one thing I / we always looked at was the dead geese in the decoys, (positioned as sleepers) ....they still looked like dead geese ?
Just my opinion, but placing them in a select group .... mixed in with the feeders...now that might be something to trial.
I agree to shift the dead ones so they are not stretched out on their backs...exposed to the incoming birds( need to fix this as soon as poss.

Any pics of your set up using dead birds would be keen to see 'em

I think that it depends on your set up, a big spread in a field the sleeper style mixes in well. When we hunt geese out of a water blind we pile them behind the blind and put burlap over them. Ducks we put in the blind.

I ALSO USE MY GEESE THAT WE HARVEST AS SLEEPERS BUT WHEN HUNTING IN A CORNFIELD I WILL PUT THEM OUT AS FEEDERS IN THE LANDING HOLE. JUST PROP THEM UP BY PUTTING THE BILL IN A CORN STALK SHOOT THIS WILL LET THE NECK LOOK AS IF IT IS FEEDING. :D

We always used to position dead geese as sleepers as well, but one day my brother and I each shot one goose out of a low flying flock as we got to the field, we decided to just set out those two dead birds, but we used a thin metal stake in their mouths to prob their heads up, we ended up decoying a flock of 25-30 more birds right in close and killed 4 more out of it.

So now I try to do the same with all my dead geese, prop their heads up to make them look like stuffers kinda.

ducks I just hide in the blind

Ha...Speaking of placing deceased birds in the spread.. :D Reminds me of a hunt not too long ago that some of you can vouch for.... "Somebody" placed one of the dead ones with their heads tucked under right in front of my pit. Out of the blue we are waiting-scanning the sky for the next flock and it came back from the dead!!! It took off staggering with a broken neck through the decoys (it wabbled and hauled rear though like it was intoxicated).... And that "somebody" had to go chase that goose again through the spread for a second time... It was rather disturbing but pretty darn funny! tongue.gif It's ALIVE!! And I have part of it on video from my digital camera.... tongue.gif

Hey Barthel... I think Heather is calling you out man. hehehe That was kind of entertaining watching you chase the goose down for a second time.
