Has anyone tried shoveling some of the snow out of the way to expose some of the ground in the kill hole? I thought this might work to suck in the geese like open water to ducks. We are in the process of being dumped on in NH as we speak 6-12 inches is expected. I was curious if anyone has tried this, seen it work, or any advice on this idea that i had. I would have to get there early but i think it would pay off. thanks.

I've definitely created bare spots in snowy fields to give the appearance that geese are moving the snow to feed. But small patches 1-2 foot circles, not big hole like spots though

We also kick open spots in the field to expose the dark soil, shows up real well. Keep the spots like Montauker said, small areas that looks like the birds had been feeding. Our group also have brought rakes to use for this also. This along with multiple shells and taking the feet off our sentry and some feeders paints a good picture, good luck.

I have used this successfully in many situations all over the country. Although we had already picked up the decoys, you can still see the small spots of peas torn up by us (simulating feeding gees doind it) in the background. We then place three to four decoys "feeding" around these spots... also makes a good place to put a well brushed up Finisher if you do not have a Snow Cover or Real Snow.
The geese in Saskatchewan, as you can see, could not resist our set up!
Hope this helps....

I ALSO LIKE TO OPEN THE AREA UP TO GIVE THE BIRDS A PLACE TO LAND. ON A HEAVY SNOW WE WILL EITHER PUT OUT HAY OR STRAW TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE OPEN GROUND OR JUST PLOW AND AREA WITH ARE SNOW PLOWS LEAVEING ABOUT 1 INCH SNOW ON TOP AND LETTING THE SUN BURN OFF DIFFERENT AREAS GIVING IT A NATURAL LOOK AND NOT A FOOTBALL FIELD LOOK.I HOPE THIS HELPS. :D

Derek, We had another great year up here, We are awaiting the late season split right now, but the year was flat out great again. I see you are making your rounds with great success as well. Got down Travis' way once, but he was tied up, couldn't get to the field with us, but I know he was covered up all year as well. Take Care.
