We like to use our GHG fullbodies with their legs removed when hunting in the snow...I think they look great!

We used full bodies and shells on this hunt. The birds were thick and the boys ate it up. A buddy of mine got the x breed, 4 man 2 bird limit.

This time of year about 75 to 80 percent of our decoys will be shells or fullbodies without legs, natural look that is deadly.

I find that it works well to remove the foot bases when the weather is cold and snowy. Another way to help you out would be to drive around and look at what the birds are doing. If they have their feet pulled up and those days I would go that route. The birds will tell you.

Living in NW MN we have alot of opportunity to hunt snow. Using the full bodies with bases off can be super effective.
This last two weeks we had our end of the year late season and I used my full body FFD's every day. I have to tell you that our last day of the season was -15 and when the birds touched ground their feet went up and tucked. The whole spread we put out was five doz GHG oversize shells and two 1/2 doz FFD's. With active FFD's we only put about 1/2 on motion bases the rest were on their bellies or lookers. On a day where others didn't fire a shot we got 11. Sorry no pics as the camera wouldn't cooperate at -15

I think this is a tactic that is very realistic and should be used when temps. fall very low.
I was invited yesterday on a hunt with some fellow Avery represenitives here in MD. We had some swans come into the spread. At the time they landed, the temp. was probably at or around 25 degrees. As soon as they landed, they immediately sat on the ground. Then, they would walk a few feet, then sit again. I guess with the temps. at where they where, the swans were probably trying to conserve bodyheat. Then on the way home, I spot about 1000 geese in a field feeding. Stopped and started glassing the field. Most of the geese were sitting on the ground. So, I think this is an approach to produce a more realalistic looking flock of geese or ducks when hunting.
