Ok Avery Prostaff or anyone else that wants to reply. Admit it how addicted are you to the sport of duck and goose hunting? As for me it seems like a 24-7, 365 day addiction.

Words can not explain, and I think that speaks for the entire Pro-Staff. Eat, sleep, drink, dream, obsess about it eveyday. If you hardcore guys have not seen Zink's "24/7 Its in the blood" call or email them and get you a copy, it is the best all around video I have ever seen. I made my wife watch it in hopes that she would realize its not just me! Go to zinkcalls.com and get you a copy, you will love it, and it helps with the off season!

Paul is right about "Zink's "24/7 Its in the blood".

In the of season I dream of guns and hunting in the same way as Homer Simpson dreams of beer smile.gif

Is that nuts or what

goosehunt2- I don't think there isnt a day go by that I don't think about waterfowl hunting. It helps living in an area that is loaded with waterfowl for sure, but I have been thinking about our upcoming trip to Saskatchewan to the point of obsession.
As far as it being in the blood- I think it RUNS in the blood. My three year old daughter about once per week will out of the blue say " Daddy, can we watch the goose hunting video with those guys you know?" (24/7)What a great feeling, knowing she is fascinated by the sights and sounds of waterfowl too. That keeps my wife off my case when it comes to watching videos too. All I have to say is " Well, she wanted to watch it dear, not me!"

Lets just say the 24/7 deal, I'm all about that! You know its bad when your season doesn't open up for 6 months and you can't sleep at night because of a new idea you have on how to improve your spread.

I admit it I am a waterfowl hunting junky. The season hasn't been out two months yet and I am already playing with my dekes and trailer working on getting things to go better next year with putouts and spreads and blinds and etc,.......

Is it season yet?

Taking the risk of sounding sappy here but:

I don't think the word addicted...by itself is enough to describe it. I think Freddie, Field, and the Z-Unit summed it up pretty well with “24/7....It’s in the Blood.” Something to do with waterfowling is constantly running through my mind. Just a few words that have made it into sentences with my name and waterfowl hunting......

Focused
Fanatic
Obsessive
Perfectionist
Infatuated
Captivated
Enthralled
Awestruck
Insane

Like Waterproof.....our season just ended a little while ago and since then I have already rearranged the garage to allow for more decoys, a new canoe, and possibly an enclosed 6' X 10' trailer. As soon as the weather breaks a little, I’ll be out rigging new blocks and re-rigging those that need it. I’ll be out scouting new areas...looking for nesting areas, feeding areas, snapping pics when I
can get some good ones. My dogs will be getting worked...a never ending preparation for the
upcoming seasons. I will begin shooting trap... honing my skills for the birds of autumn. I will
hopefully be putting the final touches on a Hunt Club....acquiring exclusive hunting rights to some properties, working on habitat restoration projects, planting fields, hopefully working with a couple of local farmers to manage parts of their property for waterfowl and other wildgame.....the list goes on and on and on. This does not even take into account that the goose and duck calls have not left my side.....30 - 45 minutes a day...practice, practice, practice...driving to observe calling contests (i.e., 12 hours to Pittsfield, IL for the Foiles weekend) - only hoping to one day compete at that level. Driving to observe live birds (anywhere I can find them). Trying to put my personal motto to use..."Perfect Imitation provides for Perfect Situations."

I am so into waterfowling that it is rarely more than a few minutes go by that I am not at least
thinking about ducks, geese, hunting, calling, scouting, Hunt Club stuff, etc. My wife, my
family, and my friends say I have a major problem!!!!! Fortunately, my wife, knowing how
much I LOVE IT and how much it means to me, is very accepting of my problem and hardly ever keeps me from it.....with the exception being family functions we have committed to prior to the hunt / invite to hunt. As a matter of fact...most of the time she encourages me in my quest!!!! And for that....I have to love her!!!!

SEASON NEVER ENDS FOR ME........IT’S A MATTER PERPETUAL PREPARATION IN HOPES OF PERPETUAL SUCCESS!!!!

SMK I think the saying I use when I describe people that don't know me fits us best.

"My friends think its a passion, my wife says it an obsession, they just don't understand it is much more important then that"

StraitMeatKilla

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!!!!

If there was a way I could afford to make waterfowling my life......well, then it would be. Give me some time....give me some time.

WOW!!! Thanks for all the responces. I am really glad to see that it's just not me. One thing about it, it seems to me like we are just one big family seperated by a few miles. Strait, See you in Pittsfield. Of course that goes for anybody else that goes.

I'm not sure there are that many words in a dictionary to describe how a die-hard warterfowler gets through the off season...and even through the open season, with such feelings and memories from the past and putting it mildly......excited about making new ones. Meeting new people, places, birds, spreads.....and the list goes on and on......IMHO....24-7-365.....only scratches the surface.........but what do I know, I'm only a dumb neanderthal gun toting redneck hill-billy drinking smelly no shaving duck hunter.... :D  tongue.gif

When I think about waterfowl hunting and how big of an impact it has had on my life I can not even to begin to imagine what kind of impact it has had on so many guys who are older then me...... I am only 19. It's 1:15 am I have class in 7 hours but I’ve been laying in bed thinking about duck and goose hunting. When I lay in bed at night and cant sleep I usually wake up and get on the Avery message boards to read about anything that has to do with duck and goose hunting until I can’t hold my eyes open any longer then I go to sleep. Here I am tonight and I found this post.... This is my obsession for waterfowl hunting ... Wake up at 3 a.m. to sit out in a snow storm, wind blowing 20 mph at your back hands and feet frozen waiting because you know this is going to be one of those days you'll have those honkers landing at the feet of your blind or having ducks torpedo into your floaters.... that moment when you see those honkers slow their wing beats and you see them lock up at that moment your not cold, tired, hungry.... the moment those ducks or geese lock up to land that’s what I believe every "true" waterfowler lives for. That moment is what everyone obsesses about because all the money, hard work, long hours in the off season..... That’s what people obsess about “what can I do, buy or anything, to have that moment.” it gives you a feeling that everything is worth it and why I and everyone comes back, again and again and there the obsession begins. Shooting the birds just confirms it. You know you have to have that before you can shoot and the bigger the flocks and the more shooting opportunities you get… is more fuel for your obsession. That moment is priceless......I wish that everyone had the opportunity to witness that moment and know how much passion and obsession goes along with everything. Waterfowling is like a whole world that most people will not witness during their life that is what drive me crazy....its crazy that people make a living waterfowl hunting...making videos, carving decoys, calling all those things...when guys talk on here they know what waterfowl hunting is all about....its special to talk to other people who have experienced the same thing other people have, and to take new people out to share your passion with other people. That’s waterfowling to me, and I feel lucky, because I’ve seen this world just as you have. In my eyes I am lucky……… I’m a waterfowler just like you.

Scored 16!!... :D

I bout died when I read "Were you reluctant to use "decoy money" on normal expenditures?"... Uuummm... My new gutters went on last week rather than last year cuz I "needed" a new big water spread... LMAO

As for addiction... I don't think it's an addiction or obssession.. I think it's a way of being... My grandad, dad, me, my daughter (7y/o) and soon my son (4 y/o)... Example... I was living in Atlanta for almost 7 years.. Good job.. Nice house.. Hot girlfriend... GA duckin ranks 49th in the US.. I walked into work one day and said I was outta there.. Drove over told the GF.. Sold the house in 2 weeks and moved back to IL cuz I knew I could kill ducks there.. At that time I could anyway.. lol.. Crazy thing about it all is, hot GF is now wife.. SHE MOVED TOO.. I get looks from her after about day 40 in the field but she doesn't say much.. She knew how it was all along and why I moved.. She now gets the regs before I do and marks down the season dates on the calender and knows I'm busy from Oct to Jan... Best part is my daughter hunted around 20 days with me this year... She's got it REAL bad... :D
