been hunting in southern illinois on some leased land for 3 years now, it has been getting harder every year to decoy and kill geese. we are located in the marion area and are really close to delmar studios which is a local photography studio that doubles as a small refuge for waterfowl. my problem is that all the birds that fly by are heading to the refuge and don't even give us a second look. i think we hide good are calling is pretty good and we are hunting over about 6 doz full bodies, 2 doz floaters and 4 doz shell decoys. can anyone offer up any advice as how to kill some birds. any help would be appreciated.

While I am a long ways from Marion Illinois. Some of the things I would suggest are...I work to make everything as real as possible. I don't use any "contraptions" that might make the geese feel uncomfortable or suspecious, When hunting these pressured or staled out geese. Alot of our success with the educated geese that we hunt everyday, Comes from hunting over large decoy spreads with alot of good quality "power type" calling.
By keeping it real, I mean to make your decoy spread look like geese and not so much a decoy spread. By using high quality decoys with flocked heads and tails and in a manner that you would see geese in a field. (ie.loose...spread out, family groups off the main spread, etc.) Also,I would just keep working toward making the spread bigger with high quality decoys. Try too find some buddies with decoys that can contribute too making the spread bigger and working together on the calling in the off season. GOOD LUCK!

I agree with Chris's statement for all situations. You mention you can call well, so I am assuming that is not the issue. I will also assume that you are flagging for motion, if not you should be, if you are using one flag try one or two more. I will add also that your situation sounds like a numbers and location issue. If you stick with your field you will need a much larger spread for drawing power. The alternative to decoy numbers would be to find another field/lease that they are using.
