I have a quick question about the SR-1. I have blown a short reed call a little bit, and I have decided to buy an SR-1. I mostly hunt Canadas in the field and only on the water when I am duck hunting already. I hunt mostly in DE or MD if that makes a difference. I am trying to decide whether to get the acrylic or the birdseye maple. Are there any differences or pros and cons between these 2. Any advice is appreciated.

I use the arcylic model. Loud, crisp, and durable.
I did have a maple one, but my pup climbed up on the desk and desided to chew it to pieces. The maple one I had sounded so good it was scary . I would go with an arcylic.

blacklabde,

I really don't think that you can go wrong with either call. The Maple does make great goose sounds. However the Acrylic is very Sharp & Crisp giving it Great Volume in the field. I would say buy them both, not every flock is going to respond the same the each call, that way you are not limited to just one call and increase your chances.

Good Luck

blacklabde,

You can't go wrong with either call. I have both an acrylic and an maple SR-1. Like Jason stated, the acrylic is loud and crisp. Maple is not as dense as acrylic. Maple will produce a mellow/raspy sound compared to the acrylic. I prefer the maple SR-1 when I hunt over water. The maple SR-1 produces great soft clucks and moans that are killer when hunting on the water. The best all around call would be an acrylic SR-1. The acrlic will produce the soft moans for finishing birds on water and the loud crack needed for big fields on windy days. If you can, go to your local Zink call dealer and try the calls.

I have a black acyrlic sr-1 for sale. I just bought the call last month brand new and have only used it around the house. The call is in brand new condition because it is only one month old and comes with the zink bag, zink box, zink "the art of paralyzing" video and the cardboard box that it all came in. Looking for somewhere around 100 dollars.

Let me know

Blacklabde,

The difference between a wood call and an acrylic call is the wood calls have a natural raspy sound where an acrylic call has more of a clear sound. You can get the raspy sound out of an acrylic call but you are having to use more larynex infliction.
In my opinion if you hunt hard all season I would go with an acrylic call because of the durability. Wood calls sometimes swell when a lot of moisture is added to them and it makes the call not so easy to get apart. But you can't beat a wood call over water. With the natural rasp that these calls produce geese just eat that sound up.
I hope this has helped you out and if you have any more questions feel free to give us a call and maybe we can blow both a wood and an acrylic call and let you hear the different sounds and see which sound you like better.
