Well we are booking our vacation to mexico for this up coming New Years, and I was wondering if any one could give me a little heads up as what to expect for fishingm whether good or bad. Also if anyone has any certain charters they use would be greatly appreciated. I should mention that we are going to the Mayan Riviera.

Mayan Riviera has some really good fishing in that area. During that time of year, the shallow flats are usually pretty productive on bonefish, snook, and permit. You'll be a little early for the GOOD tarpon bite. They roll through there in April. If you want to venture offshore in search of deeper ocean dwelling fish, bottom fishing is pretty good that time of year as well. Grouper and snapper on the reef drop offs. Amberjacks are in that area that time of year. Typically they hang out on a wreck. That's a lot of fun !!! Also, black fin tuna and king mackerel are in the mix. I know Fla. Keys', we troll for the black fins. Very good eating. As for the king's, we anchor up on structure, deep water bottom fishing for BIG grouper and yellow tail snapper. Get a chum slick going with pilchards and the kings show up in about 30 minutes. As for charters, the front desk will probably have some numbers of some Capts & boats. I don't beleive the billfish bite will be "on" that time of year, but there is plenty of other fish to target. Trythat flat's thing. It's something you and the wife can both do. Have fun !!

Kinda. Mexico offers some outstanding lighttackle fishing. That's more my style. Give me a 9 wt. fly rod, streamer, and I can walk for hours. Pretty cool.

I haven't fished Mexico- yet. But if you are going to be doing backwater type shallow flats fishing pack bass tackle. Seven foot medium or med/heavy spinning rods with good 10-14 lb line. I would recommend fluorocarbon line which is awesome for clear water.I like a seven foot Team Daiwa jig rod with their TDS baitcast reel which is capable of extremely long casts.

We have murdered Bones, and Cudas with Rapala baits. Try some of the shrimp type plastic baits offered by Culprit/Riptide lures. They also have soem crab baits too. Swim baits will work well also in that stuff as does topwater. Bones require reels that hold a lot of line but I am sure you know that. Also by the best quality polarized glasses you can find since you will need them to spot fish. Practice accurate casting prior to going.

Hey you should also pick up some Blakemore Line Magic spray and apply it regularly to your fishing reel. It will make you bait or lures sail another ten yards or more and keep the line limp and tangle free.

Hey good luck!

If you get the chance, go for bottom fih. While I've never fished in Mexico, I have fished in the Caribean/Bahamas. Groupers, snappers, AJ's, etc are strong fighters. Triggers can also be fun. Sharks are the ulitimate.

Take some pics and show us how you did!
