We are already starting to film for our next video production and I am curious what everyone would like to see more of, on a waterfowl video. We want to taylor or videos to the pleasure of the viewer. We have some cool ideas but I am curious as to what you guys like seeing.

Examples: Big water hunts,
river hunts,
decoy spread examples,
Calling tips,
travel clips,
etc.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Field,
I love calling tips and field hunting because that is basically my addiction/passion. Anything with geese I like, is the real truth I guess.

I guess I would say just keep it real like you did in the first one, it was awesome to see what the Zink crew does day to day and hunt to hunt. maybe decoy spreads and calling tips, the whens and whys of what calls you use and the type of calling your doing, maybe some calling contests you guys do, or some of the shows you attend....dont think you guys need any help you did unbelievable with the first one, now just hurry up with the next one, I have 24/7 worn out....hal ;) hey and one more thing that would be nice.....SHOW US HOW YOU GUYS GET ALL THE "BLING" around your necks....and maybe leave some for the rest of us.....j/k

I think if there were one thing that I would like to see, it would be hunting Canada's on big water.

It's hard to suggest changes to something that so good now. Keep up the great footage guy's.

Decoy spread examples, and calling tips definitely. I also would like to see gun-cam like the one in Fowl Pursuit video. I think that was COOL! May be some bloopers or something funny at the end.

Field,

I personally liked the bloopers reel, maybe a couple more bloopers in there. I also think more field setup tips and pictures of the spreads you guys used. Other then that, 24/7 was a great video, it gave us a glimpse of inside of your guys lives.

Field, I would like to see hunting of some different species of waterfowl. Snowgeese, specks, maybe some Brant hunting as well as more diver action.
And alot more field hunting for Mallards. Dry field as well as rice/bean field hunting.

BTW, You guys do a terrific job!

11-02-2004, 10:03 AM
Field I think you guys hit the nail right on the head with 24/7. One thing that really stood out was there was no music that is awesome then you really get to hear the calling and the birds when they are on the way in to the spread. I would really like to see a hunt off of a sand bar where you utilize floaters and full body decoys. Thanks for the great videos and look forward to seeing more.

I would like to see some flooded field hunting in the finisher blinds, etc.

Definately some how too's on decoy set ups and some explanation on why you change spreads in the middle of the hunt. Also, maybe get some kids hunts in there as well. I know I watch videos with my son who is now almost 4 and he really likes the parts where kids are in them. Some more Big Sean bloopers as well!

Field... along with all the other great suggestions I think it would be cool to see what kind of modifications you guys make to your gear (decoys, blinds, etc...) for hunting and maybe a tuning tips/demonstration for your goose and duck calls.

One thing I like about your video 24/7 is that most shots are up close and personal. It seems most other waterfowl videos are "long shots" where its difficult to even tell what type duck it is...Good shooting but how much does it say for the calling and set up? I feel like it takes more skill to "land" birds than to simply pass shoot 'em.

Yeah, big river goose hunting would be cool. Like on the Missouri or Mississippi Rivers. Not much has been done on that and we are trying to learn it ourselves.

I'd keep doing what you did in the origional 24/7...love the behind the scenes stuff and how it takes you through the entire season. Wouldn't mind seeing some divers hunted on big water or some hunts that don't take place in a field or pot hole. Pointers, whether calling or set up related, are always great too.

I'd also think it would be cool to show some of the contests you guys go to. I'm always hoping to see dedgoose updated with new contest clips, but I think the crew could get it out faster than them.

defenitly river hunts because 2 things we hunt the AR river here and the variety of birds you see on the river is awsome plus it would be cool to see some one do what we do. decoy spreads ecspecially goose spread tips would be cool and maybe the stuff that goes on when the camera is not running you. we all know you guys are the pros but you have to miss shots or fall in the water form time to time.

24/7 is great so it's hard to say that there is really anything to add - but down here we get a lot of specks. They are the most challenging birds to decoy "close". I would like to see the real pros do it - Maybe a Zink Speck Call?

I have yet to see 24-7, but it is on the wish list for Christmas.

I have heard alot about the making of. I guess what I would like to see more of in all videos, is tips, blinds you use, night before the hunt, what all is put into a certain hunt. Always like to see thanking the land owner.

As far as hunting, I would love to see the Zink boys in some not so well known locations. Maybe some resident goose hunting in lesser known states and some odd locations. Just my own ideas of what i would like to see.

11-03-2004, 02:30 PM
OK here is a real wish list

1. A goldeneye shoot on a river setting
2. A Scooter shoot in a Bay/Ocean setting with layout boats
3. A good mixed bag late season duck hunt
4. A brant hunt
5. A mixed bag Divers only hunt

I still like Gesse and greenheads But Variety is the spice of life and NO_ONE is doing hunts like these on Video I am sure that it would be an instant hit to include several of these hunts on your next Video.

I would like to see a "damn its Cold" dogs breaking ice, nards in your throat, ice cubes up your a** diver hunt on the Delta Marsh in Manitoba. Nuthin like a bull Canvasback jammin two feet off the icy water coming into decoys doing bout' 90mph!Nothing against those great hunts in the southern part of country. But i'm sorry.......its not cold cold out just cuz you can see you breath. That golfing weather up hear in November!

All kidding aside. I like to see the diverse types of waterfowling shown. I do really enjoy the "Real Life" aspects of 24/7! Too many videos make it look way too easy. I cant tell you how many times I take "newbies" out hunting and hear " I didnt realize how much work this is!".

1.)I WOULD LIKE TO SEE FARTHER AWAY CAMERA ANGLES.

MAYBE A 1/8-1/4 MILE AWAY- SHOWING THE BIRDS WORKING, THE LOCATION OF HUNTERS, DECOY RIG (COULD BE HARD) AND BEING ABLE TO HEAR THE CALLS THE PROS ARE MAKING. MOST ALL VIDEOS DON'T PROVIDE THIS SHOT AND I THINK THIS WOULD BE MOST EDUCATIONAL.

2.) I WOULD LIKE TO SEE AN ALL PUBLIC HUNTING VIDEO. ANYONE CAN POUND GEESE IN CANADA AND PRIVATE HOTSPOTS- LETS SEE HOW THE PROS POUND GEESE WHERE THE REST OF US HUNT?

Field,

First I would like to say great job on the 24/7 video. I would have to say it has been the best video I have seen for a long while. I know every one loves to see the successfull hunts and all the kill shots, but I know there are a great deal of guys that love this sport that are sick of just the the kills shots yes they are great and we still want to see that but, I personally get bored with only that. Things that would be fun to see: Before the hunt prepration and explanations on why you are setting up a certain way. Also the unsuccessful hunts, sometimes they are just as fun as the successful. Meaning the comradery in the feild and the egging you give your buddy because he just missed a gimmie. Sitting around bull crapping with friends about the hunt and previous hunts. Just keeping it real. Hanging out with your good freinds doing the sport you love to do. Also segments with the dogs and wacthing them work. More pre season work preparing for the up coming season. Someones first hunt. The playing field is open for many things, as long as you break up the monotony of just hunting and nothing else.

The stuff you did with black and white footage and the making of the decoys was awesome. Things like this make wacthing it fun. It makes people fell like as if they where there also.

Eric

Keep up the great work!

Film guys-

First I wan to say that 24/7 rocked. No other way to put it. I appreciate all that went into it, the first of it I wouldn't even know.

A couple things I'd recommend for next time. You guys are the experts, so I might be shootin blanks here, but here goes:

1. More shots of the hunt/incoming geese with the sun, not into it. I realize that you don't always have this luxury, but the differrence it makes is huge. Shooting into the sun, all we get to see is a silhouette of the geese. With the sun at your back, the detail that comes out on the subject (the geese) will really get the blood flowin. Again, I am sure you guys know this, but I think sacrificing other things to get this would make the shots you do get that much more breathtaking.

2. Maybe two cameras running at all times for the hunts. One in the spread getting the up-close and in your face shots. The other man can be a distance away, but he'll have the ability to capture the birds in the air for more time, even if what he does get is smaller birds. By cutting back and forth, we can get the bigger picture of what the geese are doing without losing the in your face action.

In short, I'd say having a larger field of view and seeing the subjects with more detail, not merely a black silhouette against the sun would make me want to jump out of my seat and grab my shotgun that much faster. Great job with 24/7 and I can't wait to see what you guys give us next time 'round! Keep up the good work!

I want to say thank you to everyone that posted their ideas on what they would like to see. This thread has really answered alot of questions for us and gave us some new ideas.

Our main goal is to produce a video that offers a little something for everyone.

Now with the information in hand now we just need to get out there and get it done.

Timber hunting, goose hunting, big water/flooded field hunting, public land hunting and a diver hunt thrown in as well. Try to get all types of waterfowl hunting in the video because nobody else does that and i'm sure if you did it, the video would sell lots of copies.

First you guys are awesome. I would like to see more calling clips and worked in sequences of calls. Showing us what you are doing and when in the approach. PUBLIC LAND DUCK HUNTS!!!!

i want to see you guys go in on pressured public land and smack some green heads.

I would also like not only good shots of the decoy spread but a detailed explanation of why EACH decoy is where it is and why it is either an active/feeder/looker/shell ect......

maybe after the hunt has been filmed you could go back before the hunt and explain how the birds were reacting and what you did to seal the deal (example: call shy, seeing the blinds....)

thanks guys, sounds like you should have a sweet video coming out!

1. A little of the travel
2. The decoy setup
3. Any changes that needed to be made after the 1st few flocks.
4. Tough hunts where things didnt go right or adjustments that were made to salvage a hunt that could have been bad to a decent day.
5. Adjustments in calling that caused birds to finish that wouldnt before.

Most of the videos out there are just hunts on the X where there are a ton of birds. I know thats what sells but after a while they all look the same.

Field,
Hey, I know this is an old post but I just got the 24-7 video last week. I waited and waited for it to come but it arrived while I was out pheasant hunting in Kansas. I've watched it only about 1 million times already.....I'm pretty new to goose hunting..I started getting serious with it last year and we really hammered'em in the late season. One of the things I liked about it was all the behind the scenes stuff, you know the day to day stuff...I also would like to see decoy placement tips, calling tips and such. I'm trying to learn as much as I can and who could be a better teacher than you guys! I wish I could get calling lessons close by! I'm doing pretty well but I want to get really, really good on a call, in time I guess, in time. Oh, hey...are the poly calls out yet? I haven't seen anything on the website or anywhere else but I saw someone had posted that they had one and love it!

Anyway, the point is that I'd like to see clips of you guys at contests calling and teaching other people stuff like tuning, calling tips, hunting strategies, etc. I really liked what you guys did for me and others. Keep it up because you don't have to try really.
Also, congrats on winning! Way to go.

so far, i have to agree with just about everybody for new stuff in your video. 24/7 was/is by far the best hutning video i have ever seen. Not just because ya guys got alot of good hunts and the behind-the-scenes stuff..............but you boys are good with a camera!!!!!!! Seriously!

I am not sure if it is you (Feild) who does the camera work and editting, but its like no other. The context of the viedo is awesome!! I got some backround classes in video aesthetics, and am enrolled in some editing classes come spring and we'll be learning FinalCutPro........ hopefully this will help me out a little for next fall:)

Too many videos are simplistic. Clips of the hunt and thats about it, matybe a guy talking....and sometimes its not that good. u get alot of killer shots and footage...somebody definately knows there stuff! My favorite little clip is when ya guys are in Canada and the truck is coming down the road with dust rolling everywhere......too cool! :D

Another idea as I have viewed this fine video often. You did a great job in taking us through the call making process and the beginning of the decoy making process. How about the manufacturing process og GHG overseas? I know this isn't really a Zink Calls deal but it would follow up nicely with what you started in the 24-7 video. Also, since it is a Zink Calls deal a segment on contest calling would also be fun to watch.

The first movie you guys made was great, but for the next one make a video that is more educational, rather than one that is strictly just duck and goose killing. I’d like to see a video where can I learn a lot of new stuff, not just see a bunch of ducks and geese get killed, I can watch any video and see that. I want to see stuff like: blind placement, decoy placement, plus how many of which species and why you are using them, calling tips, flagging tips, plus any other tips that could help us hunters. Also I would like to see you guys limit the numbers of decoys you use. Most people can’t afford or carry 6 dozen full body decoys, plus blinds and other stuff to a spot. So, I would like to see what you guys would use and do in that situation. I think that this video should cover all sorts of places that duck and goose hunting takes place, focus less on the pothole and timber duck hunting and more on covering all the situations that hunters have to cover when hunting ducks and geese. Also, I would like to see a diver hunt, and hunts out on tidal marshes for geese as well as ducks.
Thanks, Luke

Whoever is producing the video might take sometime to view some of the video's In-Fisherman puts out. They always go into the technical aspects of fishing or in this case waterfowl hunting, which seems to be a popular theme for the new video from those who have responded thus far. Also, how to change techniques as birds become more weary. Some information regarding how the daily requirements (food and rest) of ducks and geese change as the environmental changes would be very valuable.

Decoy setup, and calling (when and how) tips! I also absolutely love to see good dog work. It's just something about seeing a dog pick the birds up that gets me going more than watching some big ol' guy running around. That just makes it look like it's too much work. However, if the dog isn't even steady, then leave it out. That just pisses me off.

first would like to say that i loved the last video. As far as hunting situation I think it would be neat to see a frozen loafing pond hunt for canadas in the states. Broken hole in the ice and lots of sleeper shells and full body sleepers on the ice. I also think a loafing sandbar set up would be good. As far as filming i like to see the birds work, and seeing more then their final run is cool too. tips are great, maybe incorporate some shots of the decoy spread when lighting is good from a further vantage point, and even some cut aways to a still shot of the spread with the voice over it explaining the set up and expected approach of birds. If you can get a canada goose hunt filmed out of layout boats and a monster canada floater spread i would love to see it!

I'd love to see some big open water hunts. Goose, Divers, and Greenheads.

River Hunting is what I end up doing 90% of the time, I'd love to see the setups on these (especially in flowing water, not necessarily back edies and resting areas).

I'd almost guarentee if there was a good solid video showing assorted decoy placement and/or technical calling video (showing the ins and outs of reading the ducks and the perfections needed to call them in) I'd be all over it.

2) Unique stuff (Brant, eiders/rock blinds)
3) I like when you put music to the hunt sequences
4) Seniors & Kids (Help reinforce the need to respect the resource, land, ethics, etc.)
5) Guest hunt giveway for my son, myself and another lucky stiff :-)

Since we have to wait till June to see the next installment of the z-crew. The only thing I want to see is a 2 disk dvd set.

There are some really great ideas on here already but come on guys. Public land hunting? These are the big boys we are talking about now - I think it's ok to use guides and stuff when you have reached the level they have achieved? I think I would be pissed if I found out they came to Nebraska and hunted public land and didn't offer to have anyone else with them. I know there isn't one person on here that wouldn't be honored to be on a hunt with any of the zink guys. Seeing the different guides/outfitters/ people they get to hunt with is cool. The corn field hunt with honker bonker and the bonus birds. :)

(grant capers? - has to be my favorite since he used the mallard shaker thing - that took some boys! - non zink video) :)

First may I say "Well done on two fine efforts "
The other posts seem to have it nailed - 'cept for the one part where the filming tried to get too "techy".... ie. ( faded black and white.. ) We want real colour, not abstract nonsense and as others have mentioned a little less of the overdubbing music.

Otherwise, fantastic.!!

I would like to learn something. Calling or decoy tips. New ideas and places.

Watching tons of geese or ducks get shot isn't as exciting as learning how I can harvest more.

A variety of places and techniques would be good, too. Layout hunting, brant, rivers, woodies, sea ducks, something different than just Canadas in fields and mallards.

I'd like to see you guys hunt ducks in a field or where ever without an armada of robo ducks. Not hidden or edited out of view but simply without any at all, just results based on the effectievness of the GHG line of decoys and some good calling. I for one am sick seeing robo tolls over a spread of goose decoys and robos and know alot of others who think it's a rip off to sell decoys or a call or a camo based on the effectiveness of something other than the product (robos and 3.5 inch hevi-shot). I used to watch all the vids but since the robo tolls dominating the screen on most videos it's boring to watch and frustrating to see, when you know they got robos running and you spot one over one of the guys shoulders in the back ground. I'd buy a video that promotes the fact no robos were used in the making of the film just for that reason alone. Let's see some huntin.

I kind of like the idea of the split screen with the calling on one side and how the birds react on the other. But you could also just show the footage of the birds reacting, and just have the audio of the calling. And you could pause the footage to explain what notes your blowing, why your blowing them, and then let the footage roll. I would also like to see more of the field spreads, and maybe a big river hunt and spread for either ducks and geese. But really you guys make great hunting videos, so keep up the good work.

Field I would like to see some snow goose hunts and also some hunts for specks there are not very many people hunting for specks on video. You could also talk about calling specks. I would also Like to see some scouting routines such as how you follow the birds to find where you hunt. It would be neat to see some river hunting setups for both ducks and geese.

I hope this helps but you guys do a good job as it is. I would just keep the presure on the birds and I dont think you will have a problem with that. Good hunting guys.

You guys already do an awesome job of filming and producing. The fact that you make it a hunting documentary instead of all kill shots makes it much more entertaining. If there is one area where there is a tiny bit of room for improvement it would be showing a variety of hunting situations instead of all field-hunting. For example, the clips on coyote and snow goose hunting made Runnin Traffic a great video instead of just a good video. If you could do different things like maybe hunting big water, pits, stand-up blinds, key on different species like specks and lessers, provide calling and setup tips, that kind of thing, you would keep your videos in the "great" status, otherwise the footage just starts to blend together and the viewer loses interest.

Not to pick on Shawn Stahl, but I've watched some of his videos the same number of times that I've watched some of yours. I'm pretty much burnt out on his videos but yours are still entertaining, especially Runnin Traffic. The reason for this is the variety. Keep up the great work.

It is hard to imagine topping what you have already produced. I agree that seeing the set-up, and learning why it was done a particular way, adds to the viewer's enjoyment and gives the element of instruction that can be stored away and put to use someday.

Water hunts, on rivers or lakes, would be awesome. Mixed bags of geese and ducks seems to be what a lot of hunters end up going after.

An all USA DVD. Start with early season geese anywhere in the country, follow the waterfowl migration south, and finish up with the latest season for geese. If you are looking for out of the country stuff, I feel that Canada has been overdone. Nearly every video has the majority of the footage coming from up north. I would rather see a few days from Argentina, England, Iceland, etc. I know Avery has some Pro-Staffers in a couple of foreign lands other than Canada. I think a DVD should contain: 1. Uniqueness: like in Cluckin' Crazy with the building of a call and showing how decoys are carved. 2. Tips and Tactics: Sean Mann's autumn harvest still IMO has the best tips and tactics prior to each hunting segment. Include some calling tips as well and showcase the differences in each Zink Call. 3. Local Flavor: no matter where a hunt is filmed, it should show off the area whether it is discussions over a meal with some local landowners, scenery or other points of interest. 4. Show the good and the bad. Every hunter knows that you aren't going to kill out each and every time afield. Sometimes things don't work out as planned.

Isn't that the truth!! Problem is when you are trying to promote a product, you have to show the good hunts, not the bad. I would like to see a video that shows the way it really goes down. No editing hunts together!! Show the hunts that we can relate to, like putting up with other hunter competition and when the birds do not co-opperate.

Just because most DVD's are filmed in Sask/Albt does not mean they cannot look at Canada...............The maritime provinces are have a huge goose population...............you can shoot black ducks like you do mallards out west along with world renowned hospitality and easily the most beautiful spot in Canada.................plus.......and I do not want to offend anyone but I seriously doubt that anyone.....other then Alaska in the US has late season conditions like ours for sure...............we are right on the North Atlantic.

Plus I have not mentioned sea ducks in Novas Scotia and New Brunswick.............pheasants and grouse all over etc..........

You can field hunt, marshes, freshwater creeks and springs, bays, ocean, rivers, ponds etc.............I doubt you could find such a wide range of different enviroments to shoot birds in.

Just my two cents?????????????

p.s. Oh yeah............beer,music and fresh seafood!

You guys sure have set a new bar in the waterfowl hunting video business!! Keep it up!!!
p.s. would also like to see some more snow goose hunting!!

I've seen a whole lot of people ask about calling competitions on here, maybe you could show some of the ways to practice a routine, and even some actual competitions so people could see for themselves what it takes.

I would like to see you guys go into more depth when discussing the geographic regions you are hunting. Possibly a map showing where the hunts are and locations of upcoming hunts. Also, I thought the sound tracks are nice along with the light humor...showing the the true enjoyment of hunting.

I would like to see a video that shows the way it really goes down. No editing hunts together!! Show the hunts that we can relate to

This is NUMBER ONE!!!!!! Cool editing and great videos but....................... I want to see guys knocking on doors and getting told NO, I want to see snow coming in sideways, I want to see 3000 birds in the field next to you screwing with you, I want to see your trailer get a flat tire, I want to see your boat get unhitched on the highway, I want to see crowded parking lots and the race to good spots,

NOT LAYUP AFTER LAYUP AFTER LAYUP>>>>>>

Then end the video with REDEMPTION. Have a storyline, not just slaughter festivals.

Field, How about taking each flyway from top to bottom from the beginning of the season to the end, with a little history lesson on each, the traditional ways of hunting each area and what the waterfowlers are doing today for success.

I really like the casual stuff you guys include in your videos, like topping off the tank on your trips, and the sites you see while your travelling, as well as the local people you see as well. I 'd like to see some of the other hunting you do in the off season like maybe a turkey hunt or even a rabbit hunt!!! I know it's not waterfowl but it let's people realize that you guys are hunters first and foremost, but you also make videos as well.

Im so far down the list on this thread its probly not going to get read. But anyway, I like to see more of what goes into the hunt. Not just a slaughterfest. I think a hunt on public land would be great like somebody mentioned I forgot who. Bloopers are good to.

Is this for tv or DVD?? if it is either, you could do special sections of the show or DVD with calling tips, decoy setups, and gear tips. It would really cool if you could, when you go to different state and canada do the hunting that waterfowlers do in that specific are. Thanks for asking!!!!!!!!!!

River hunting. I live in Wyoming and that is mostly what we hunt here, so I would like to see more of that personally, but like an old saying goes if it ain't broke why fix it right? Y'all make some of the best videos out there.

Alot of things have been said about the hunt. One thing I have never seen was the scouting it self and what you guys look for and what tools you guys use to find the X. Plus I love the snow hunts. Different locations help not to be the same. I love the shots on the highway. It helps build the excitement we all feel when just start a hunting road trip.

I love your guy's videos. They are awesome. In the upcoming video i wouldn't mind seeing more decoy spreads along with bling allingment with wind directions and such. I also think some field mallard hunts would be great because they are a blast. Keep us the awesome work i love your stuff.

A field hunt set up specifically to target ducks. Not ducks coming in during a goose hunt. I also think that some river/big water hunting would be cool.

Field,I would like you guys to come to Maryland's eastern shore and film some field hunts for geese. It seems like most of the videos are filmed in Canada where there are plenty of un-pressured birds(not shot at much before heading south and young or un-educated). I would like to see what you could do here. I would also like to see more"How To" stuff about field set-ups for geese. Thanks.

More of in your face...With that Chad Belding Dude that guy is great
he adds just that much more to the videos.. You can't go wrong with some comedy in the field
There's got to be one guy in your group like that to lighten things up a little

footage from hunt to hunt and planning each one is great footage. Behind the scenes is always good to have. Face the facts I would bet cash that 90% of the people on this message board has 'dreams' to become a prostaff member and with behind the scenes footage it allows one to act, speak, hunt and prepare like a prostaffer would. Show footage of everyone being themseleves

It appears that Field's inquiry for input will never end!! This has to be a testament of how much waterfowl enthusiast's are captivated with what the Z-Unit guys are doing.

Here is a quote from this post, dated Nov. 5, 2004 from Field Hudnall!!

I want to say thank you to everyone that posted their ideas on what they would like to see. This thread has really answered alot of questions for us and gave us some new ideas.

Our main goal is to produce a video that offers a little something for everyone.

Now with the information in hand now we just need to get out there and get it done.

Think about it; over 5,100 views, 192 replies and at least two videos released! This thing is exhausting...

First of all, you guys do a great job with your videos. I would personally like to see a video, just about hunting Public Land. I think their are allot of hunters who while they have a private "honey hole" there are many like myself who still hunt Public Lands. I think the set-ups and calling are MUCH different when you are hunting public birds, and I'd love to hear yawl's thoughts.
