Hey there, What can anyone tell me about Echo ducks calls? My buddy is in the market for a new duck call. Anyone out there use Echo? How are they? He is also thinking of Foiles or Zinks. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Brad,

It depends on what kind of performance your friend is looking for in a call and what the end use will be. If he is looking for a call to use for hunting and/or competition that can give you a ringing highball plus low end quacks, I would have him look at a Foiles or Echo. If you are looking duck call that will be used strictly for hunting, I would suggest Zink's XR-2 double reed or Zink's Power Hen single reed. Both calls are pure duck. The XR-2 Paralyzer comes with an excellent instructional tape. Once you watch the instructional tape for the XR-2, you will have a call that is pure duck. The Power Hen is a single reed call that has a little more range than the XR-2 but the Power Hen is just as ducky. I have both a Power Hen and XR-2 on my lanyard. If your buddy has a chance, I would suggest trying all of the calls that you listed. If you want additional information on Zink Calls, go to the link below.

I agree with Rusty 100 percent!
The XR-2 is a hunting call, medium volume, but pure mallard hen built in. If he is looking for a really good duck hunting call, look no further than the XR-2 by Zink!

Anytime you are in the market for a new call, goose or duck, it is always best to go to a place with a good selection and test drive them for yourself. Things to consider in a duck call are things like where you mostly hunt. Timber, small sloughes, fields or big water. Each may have a call that is better suited to fit your hunting locations. Personally I really like the tone range and volume of a single reed but when it comes to pure duck the XR-2 from Zink is an awesome call, its just a little different to blow. Everyone blows a little different and you may sound and like one call much better over another. Give a bunch a try and see what suits you best. If you are on a budget I would also consider the Quack Head line from RNT. That Quack Head Timbre is a great sounding call for the money.

Brad,

You can not go wrong with an Echo. Whether it be competition or hunting calls. Rick has a line up of calls to accomodate the cost consciensious hunter, as well as the upper end custom calls. His calls are easy to blow and they are pure duck. Whether you are looking for a loud call, or a soft nasally timber call, Echo can fix you up. Rick and Robb Watts also offer exemplary customer service and they can tune your call however you like it. Rick is one of the most knowledgable callmakers in the business and a great person. You can reach them at 501-882-2026.

Good luck & good hunting

I have to agree with Brett, go test drive a few before you make up your mind. See if any of your hunting buddies have the calls your looking for and try them out. This way you have a good idea of what you want before you buy it.
