I was thinking of ordering an xr-2 and just had a couple of questions. 1. I heard of people saying that it was tuned lower than in the videos, is this always true, and i need to give a special request or what?. And i was also wondering about how it blows. I heard people said that it was different than a normal double reed, I know how to blow a double reed duck call so will i be able to pick up on this quick or is it real hard to get the hang of?
thanks for the help

Honkerhuntin,
All XR-2s are going to vary a little due to the way we have to tune them. Some are going to be deeper than others but if someone wants one higher then they can request one higher. The ones on the video are actually not tuned to be high. It is the amount of air constriction that is put into the call. A call that is tuned high will only blow high, a call that is tuned deeper can always get higher by increasing air constriction. The xr-2 does take a little time to learn to blow correctly but is all depends on the persons ability to constrict their air.
I hope this helps but if not give me a call and I can go into greater detail. (937)-832-3436

honkerhuntin, If you can blow most doublereeds, you can blow the XR-2. It is a smaller call, with a narrow reed design and small exchaust hole in the insert requiring the call to take alittle more air to blow. After a few minutes with the call, it will come to you and you will be pleased with the ducky sounds of this call.
Field is right, you can put more air in the call and get a higher pitch/sound out of it, or tone it down for a deeper old mallard hen.Give Field or Clay a call an order you a XR-2. You wont regret it.
I used mine for the first time as our season opened saturday, and the ducks responded to it well.
Now if I could just learn how to shoot.... :D

Honkerhuntin,
As everyone has stated the XR-2 is a little different but once you get it down you will love the sound.
My best advice is try to find one that you can try out and see if you like it.
I hope this helps you out and as Field said if you need anything let us know.
Clay
