Where do they find you pro staffers at and what back grounds do you have? Is every body a comp caller, or did someone send you video of them hunting? Just curious as to how you guys got started.

There are alot of prostaffers that are competent competition callers, some others that have a hunting "product" background, but most of us are just hardcore waterfowlers like yourself that work their tails off day in and day out to put birds in the bag.

ks_waterfowler,
Not every member of the Pro-Staff is a comp caller. The Avery Pro-Staff is made up of a diverse group of outdoorsmen from all over the world sharing many things in common: they all love the outdoors, they all possess a wealth of knowledge about hunting that puts them in a special category and they all have a part in making Avery the company that it is.
Being a part of this special team requires hard work and a commitment of time and energy that many cannot make. Avery welcomes anyone who feels they have the time and energy to commit to the Pro-Staff program, but we want to stress up front that ours is a team approach so you must be a team player or you will not fit into this group. If you can meet these simple requirements and feel that you have what it takes to be a member of the Avery Pro-Staff, then we welcome your application!
You can request an application using the following email address: beckyp@averyoutdoors.com
Thanks,
Rob Jepson

I didn't want to apply, I was just curious as to what it took to become a prostaffer. I am perfectly happy with my FIrefighting job at this time. I have always been curious where they find there places find their prostaffers. I have a buddy that is trying Drury Outdoors for some dang reason. He should have been on TV when Babe Winkleman came down to predator hunt here in Kansas.

ks_waterfowler,
I am not the best caller in the world and certainly no comp caller but I am as yourself a firefighter, that loves to hunt, and today I work full time as a maritime fire and rescue instructor.
I have not been a Pro-Staffer for long but I can tell you that the people at Avery make you feel lika a part of a family eventhough you live overseas like I do.

IT sounds good, but if I get the firefighting job at the refuge here (everyday is a scouting trip) then I won't have that much time to devote. If I get on the career department here, then it is 24 hrs on 48 off.
I am by no means a great caller. I live .5 miles from the refuge and hunt minimum 3-4 days per week. I have been hunting ducks for 10 years, and just don't think that a country kid like me would be a great prostaffer for Avery. You guys have a great company, I just don't feel that I have much to offer you guys. I do what I have to do to kill ducks whether it is cutting ice with a chainsaw or camping out overnight, or maybe the 3 mile hike in that I am fond of. Lots of guys do that.

ks_waterfowler,
You are right. The 24/48 shift is very good for hunting. I have worked the 24/48 shift 14 out of the 17 years with the fire department.

Little Side note here. Went hunting this afternoon with one of my friends. We only shot 6 (all drakes), but we were only taking drakes that were decoying. We refused to shoot them if they were flying by even though they were well within range.
4 Drake Mallards
1 Drake Pintail
1 Drake Widgeon

Just a few questions, What exactly do Pro-Staffers do? How old do you have to be to work with the Pro-staff? What kind of requirements are there? I'm currently in high school, but would love to work for Avery some day!
Thanks,
