I just got a bennelli nova, and i was wondering if an aftermarke choke tube will make a difference in waterfowl hunting, if it will make a difference what choke should i get?

thanks michael.

Michael- I had a Nova and it shot awesome patterns at all ranges. I saw the light this season with choke tubes though. While trying to hit a crippled blubeill at about 35 yards, my shot string was several feet long. I wsa hardly hitting the bird with half the shot. Brett popped it with his wad wiz, and it looked like a bowling ball hitting the water. I was convinced after that that there is something to it. Look at the ranges you normally shoot birds in, and buy a tube accordingly.

I like the Pattern Master or Wad Wizzard style that shorten your shot string putting more pellets on the target as opposed to restricting your shot into tighter patterns but lengthening your shot string.

Michael,
The link bellow has info that might help, but to answer your question yes they do make a difference. All chokes and shells take alot of trial and error at the range to get the perfect combo.
Good luck,
Dave

Man, you guys are going to force me to try one of these on my SP-10 aren't you? :D
Any tips on which one has the best pattern results with an SP-10?

They make a big difference. I shot a Patternmaster for quite awhile and recently started shooting Terror Tubes and like what I've seen so far with those.

I will have to agree with the rest of the guys. I have used a Pattern Master tube for the past 3 or 4 seasons. Whether you shoot steel shot or one of the many tungsten loads, you will see a big difference. You will just crush the birds. I have not shot any of the other tubes but I have heard of similar results.

Ditto to Rusty and the others. I started using a PatternMaster 4 season ago and haven't found a reason to change.

Do the Patternmasters still need to be re-tightened after shooting every couple shots?
I heard you dont have that problem with the WW or/ Terror chokes.
Give me some more input fellas...

JED,

I have seen post regarding PM's coming loose during shooting. I never had a problem with mine.

I also have seen posts about the Patternmasters backing out but I've never had that problem with my Patternmaster or Terror Tubes.

Where could I find a Wad Wizzard choke? Don't see them at Mack's or Cabellas but they both carry Pattern Master.

Have any of you guys used the Accu-Comp choke tubes by Wilson Precision? They were pretty reasonably priced and cryogenically treated, so I was thinking about giving one a try.
