Need prostaff input on weary geese

Guys need some input on hunting weary geese. The specs that I have been hunting are staying outside the edges of my decoys or staying upwind of my spread.They will not drop downwind and work up to my decoys. I have tried flagging ,not calling, alittle calling,Please give me some advice.

Hey JEDJR,

I don't know where all the ProStaffers are, (unlike this outdoor writer, I guess they have birds in their area) so I'll give you something to try that's worked for me.

Under these circumstances, move yourself and your blind either upwind to meet the incoming birds or off the edges of your decoys at the point where they start to peel off. By doing so, you can intercept the birds while they are in range and 11before they spook.

The Power Hunter and Finisher are great for doing this as they blend in very well and can be quickly moved. At the start of the day, set up where you think is appropriate. Watch the birds and don't hesitate to take them when they are in range. If the birds are still spooking out of range, move your blind further away from the decoys.

Another thing you may want to do is down scale the number of decoys you use.

Over the years, I've done both and by doing so turned bad days into good ones!

Mike has given some great input. If I remember correctly, you are basically flooded out, and probably using mostly floaters. With both ducks and specs, when they start slipping the decoys I like to move the entire spread in the opposite direction from which the birds are working. When possible, place a caller in the decoys, and put shooters on the approach path.

I also agree with Mike on using fewer decoys. Some of the best spec hunters I know will scale down to 3-5 decoys when the birds get spooky.
