The second weekend of duck season I shot a banded Drake Pintail. Then the first month I shot a banded Blue Goose. I was wondering, how rare is it to shoot one of these species. I know a band is a rare thing, but what about on these two?

some guys have been hunting for 25 years that have never killed a banded bird.It also depends were you live. I think alot more banded birds are killed in the north and midwest before they make it down to us in the south. Dont know about rare, we have a pintail population problem I am told, so they are banding them to help with that, and we have an over population problem of snows and blues, so who knows. But you have had a great season, believe me! I shot just my 2nd band this season and I have been hunting ducks and geese for 23 years. You are one lucky hunter!!Congrats!

I have only been duck hunting for two years and the first bird i ever killed was a banded drake woody. it was 6 years old when i killed it and was banded in maryland i killed it in a swamp in alabama.bands are like playing a raffle every now and then your # gets picked.
