I've probably seen 10 million ways to wrap up decoys after hunting, but which is the way everyone seems to prefer? I use the figure 8 style--over the back, under the tail, back around the neck and repeat, the wrap around the neck and clamp the strap on.

Or do most people just wrap the necks or keels?

I normally wrap the keel till the last foot then wrap the rest aroung the neck.

The figure eight is great if you are using lines over about six feet. Since I rarely have over six feet of cord on the decoy, I usually wrap around the keel and then secure the strap weight by bending it around the keel of the decoy.

I started using the keel to secure the weight years ago when I noticed a lot of damage (either chipped paint or discolored paint from the lead) while wrapping the weight around the neck.

When I use the Ace Anchor System, it has a rubber lead attached. I cut my line after I measure where it would pull tight again after the rubber lead was stretched enough to hold the anchor secure enough. Sometimes I may have to cut twice. No painted chipped and no banging of weights off of decoys. This system also works great for the hot buys with their low keel design.

I usually wrap the keel, and bend the weight over the end. The less that I knock the paint on the decoys the better off I am. I am hard enough on decoys during the season. I have one lake that I hunt that is a over a mile walk, and you have to backpack the decoys in. Needless to say they get bumped and rubbed hard on each other as we walk back there.

Cooksey, we usually use our wingspan as a determining factor for how long to make our strings on our decoys. we hunt a lot of 3-6foot deep stuff....so, when I do it with my arms it usually equals to complete figure 8's and then a couple loops around the head and latch her down.

Hest,

If it works for you, I am all for it. Personally, I have always found the depth of the water I will be hunting was more important in determining how much line to use than your' "wingspan".

Yeah, I see the joke coming.

I wrap the keel and then the neck on the long lines and just the neck on the short lines.

So that im not scratching up all the necks, I do this....

I have a little rubber band on the weight so when I rap it all around the keel, Then I take the rubber band and hook it around the end of the keel or front and it just holds on the weight. Its easy. Makes everything alot easier also. I was thinking of getting some of those DECOYL things but they are to spendy lol
