Gooses favorite food??

What do geese prefer to eat for the migration south??Wheat,corn, alphalfa??Or do you think they even have a favorite?

From what i have seen most geese like to feed in small grain of wheat oats peas corn soybeans mostly what ever their is the most of to eat

I agree with Dick on this. In Minnesota most of the early season geese(early Sept.)seem to work into green fields, either oats or alfalfa. Our weather starts turing cold generally mid to late Sept and as the bean and corn harvest starts, the birds move into the picked fields. The colder it gets, the more corn seems to be their food of choice.

Well, if you think about it. How many geese do you see in and around golf courses, and from what I've read and seen first hand, good old green grass is their fav, and next would be corn. But, this could be a regional conception.

I think it`s all about Protein.In warmer weather they go more for greens .As it gets colder they move to corn and beans.

I thin it is more what is redily available. I have a sod field behind my house (inside city limits) that holds thousands of geese every day until it is covered in snow or their roost water is froze up. If you think about it it makes sense. Geese can easily feed out grain fields thus have to search for new fields with more grain. It is very difficult to feed out a grass field so they do not have to search as hard. The biggest difference thatI have noticed is that the colder it gets the longer they stay out there. Having said this we all know that geese in Parks with a lot of grass still will leave that area to feed on grain as well. I really think certain geese prefer certain food types. It is porbably why you see some geese dropiing into beans when others are dropping into corn right next to them. I would say that day in and day out, if I can find a green field, I want to hunt it.
