i just bought a doz of the avery oversize goose shell decoys, was curious if i could put these in shallow water, with very little current or if it would chip the paint or what, also are these decoys good for early season, since they don't have feet, or should i wait til later season? thanks for the great products and the great service!!! Oct.4 slowly approaching! :D

A morning in the water will not effect your paint. As far as using shells in the early season, let the birds dictate your decoy setup. Prehunt scouting should determine where you are going to hunt and how to set up your rig. If you see birds in the field that are sitting down, then utilize shells in you decoy spread. If you are hunting shorelines, you always see geese loafing on shorlines and/or sandbars. I hope this helps.

thanks, i do see a lot of geese resting on the shore, so i believe they should work well! early season i am only using my pintail and mallard dekes, with some goose shells! should be an awesome day of hunting, sunrise to sunset!!!!

You could also use the GHG Motion stakes in that shallow water situation on some of the shells to lift them up out of the water some and add motion/resemble geese walking/moving around feeding as well.
Would really enhance the overall look of the spread you are trying to create.

This photo was taken on Sept 10th 2004. In it you will see a group of Oversized Shells on Universal Motion Stakes, one Full Body and one of the real deal. As you can see the goose is not alarmed and that the shells are absolutely effective in the early season.

Just to add to Brett's photos (this may be Montana by Nov. 1st). This was a killer setup on a breathless 0 degree day. You'll love the shells.

I agree, Both early season and late season are where the shell decoys are most effective. In early season you will see many times where the young of the year are belly down sleeping with one or two standing geese in an "active" or "looker" pose. Late season a spread like Doug's picture is very realistic and effective.

Waterfowler44, I've always told my wife if I went to Montana, I may never come back. I've seen too many videos of that beautiful country. But, then again where Derek hunts down south it has it's own beauty. Just give me an open horizon with an eight mile view. It was 95 degrees here today, a far cry from that Jan. morning.

Only 77 degrees here! pretty nice, really windy, walked out to my duck blind and there was a bear kill about 100 yards away from it, not to scared, the bear was about 30 yards from me when i came around the corner, just a little black bear, about 100 pounds new baby, ran like a cat out of there, pretty funny, got some really cool pics before it ran!
