JOURNAL NOTES: Today I decided to head down to my old stomping grounds and hunt with my good friend John Graves. I moved out of Bucks county about 10 years ago when the developers starting taking over. Places where I’ve shot geese or deer are now filled with houses and people that want to live in the country but don’t like anything about the country….the smell of farms, hunting etc. One of the positive things that came out of the loss of land is they put ponds all throughout the common areas of each development. These ponds are havens for waterfowl. They have water and all of the grass they want to eat.
We setup in a cornfield that was surrounded by developments to try and traffic some geese that were trading between ponds or heading out for something other than grass. We decided to do some training with John’s labs and were only shooting one bird out of each flock why the other guy made sure the labs didn’t break early. We didn’t see the amount of traffic expected and fell short of a 2 man limit due to our “cherry picking” one out of each flock and a gun jam. It’s not always about limits for us. We had a great time talking about old times, watching the dogs work and the geese finishing in the decoys.
