LOCATION: Prairie Co., Arkansas – Private Rice Farm
WEATHER: Sunny
TEMPERATURE: Mid 50’s
WIND: SE 10 MPH
EQUIPMENT USED: Avery® Floating Pit Bag, Avery® Floating Duck Strap,
Avery® Field Staff Cap
HUNTERS: Steve Chudy, Chris Streekstra, Justin Voight and Avery® Pro-Staffer Alan Sisson
JOURNAL NOTES:
After a few days of extreme cold, snow and ice before Christmas, the ducks around the state were looking for open water. My farmer buddy Steve Chudy was able to open the rice field up around the pit with the tractor late in the afternoon the day before. Since the birds were moving around more in the middle part of the day we meet up with Steve at the farm around 12:00. There were probably 2000 to 3000 birds setting in the field as we headed out. Birds were coming back into the field before we ever got into the blind. Birds worked and listened well to the call, mostly Mallards, with a few Pintails and Spoonbills working the rig as well. Sixteen birds were bagged and we standing back at the farm by 3:00pm.
