JOURNAL NOTES: With the waterfowling season over in my part of the state I drive 3.5 hours west for late season Canada goose hunting. With a shared lease, family and job commitments, and sometimes weather-restricted travel I don’t get there near as often as I wish. To fulfill my yearning for cupped-winged fowl, I grab my camera and head out in an attempt to grab that one shot, the photo you’ll never tire of looking at. I approach my photo shoots with the same drive and enthusiasm as if chasing my quarry with a gun. I dress fully camouflaged with strands of Avery KillerWeed draped around my neck and over my shoulders. I carefully sneak into position and sit motionless, patiently waiting for that exact moment. I may not release my shutter for an hour or more. Not only does the anticipation of the shoot equal that of any hunt, the rush lasts until I view the last picture on my computer at home. Success afield isn’t always about game lying at your feet.
