Well, I decided to try and get some photos of some geese in my GHG decoys today. The geese showed up, just not in the numbers I had hoped for and with VERY POOR lighting. Anyways, here's what I could manage with my sorry little Canon Powershot S400 without getting busted.
Keep in mind these are local birds and have been hunted all season. They came right into my shells. No 2nd thoughts about it. Once they saw them, they made a beeline for them. Spread consisted of 12 GHG Oversize Shells on GHG Universal Motion Stakes.

Enjoy! Also, feel free to post some suggestions on how I can improve my photos even with this little cheapo. All comments are appreciated. Thanks! :)

Here are 2 geese right after they landed in my spread.

Cody fine pictures. Keep in mind a few things when shooting pictures. One is light. Light can make or break you on certain day's. Sometimes you want it, and other times you don't. Sometime's you want it just a little, but keep working at it, and thanks for the pictures.

Dakota Jim or Susqhehanna Gauge (sp?) ANYONE care to help?

I couldn't do much about the lighting. I had to stay hid and it was super cloudy also.

dude, what are you still doin up? You need to get to work so you can buy us some new GHG decoys.:)

Yeah sure, go ahead and buy yourself a Power Hunter in khaki though just to make sure you have a spot.
Call me some time.

Also, Tom. here is a picture of your goofy mug I found from last Sat. I notice that you are holding the plasti-cam that wouldn't take pictures cause it was cloudy? boohoo:( :D

Don't bust on that Canon too much Frazier...I'm sure it can take some darn nice photos.

Like Travis said light can make or break a photo. Overcast day are tough but not impossible. Sometimes you get an great image that you could never pull off with a bright day. Keep after them and keep posting the pics!

Hey Cody,

You have the photo bug crawling in your blood stream. Keep taking those photos and don't excuse your self for having a camera like that. Keep snapping photos. We all started with cameras worse then that, cheap open boxes with.....gulp....film. A long time ago I was watching a show on PBS about photographing flowers. They showed a neat little trick that I used for years before I could afford a good zoom lens. Take your camera and use it with a pair of binocs. The trick here is to keep both the camera and the binocs as still as possible. I found that even with a camera with a zoom like your Canon it still works. Here are some photos using this system.

Cody...those aren't binos, those ARE Doug's glasses!

In all seriousness that is a great tip from Doug and as well as some great photos. If you want to learn a little more there is an article in the October 2005 / Outdoor Photographer on "digiscoping". Basically it is what Doug suggests but with a higher powered spotting scope.

There are adapters that connect the camera to the scope and these can yield more magnification than would be availalbe to a photographer with a SLR and an 800mm lens!

Glasses? At the rate I'm loosing, they may very well be my glasses.

"Digiscoping" Ahh, great pickup Rob! A quick search brought up these helpful sites.

Thanks for the replies and help guys.

And yes, they are shot under a boat dock, but they def. weren't boat dock geese. And they are def. more wary than birds on a refuge too.

I plan on targeting an area with more birds this weekend. I'm gonna take a few feeder and look FB's to go with my shells. They should be much better.

Thanks again.
-Cody
