Well I am going to bite the bullet and get a Canon 20D. Time to finally retire the 22 year old 35mm SLR. Where is everyone getting their cameras, internet or local stores?

Clayton- It pays to shop around for sure. There are several internet sources that are good to look at. Ritz camera, and buydig.com come to mind. I shopped several stores, quoted prices and asked them to price match. If you do your homework, you will get your camera at a better than shelf price.
The 20D is a great camera. You will love it.

Another vote for buydig.com and I would also look at bhphotovideo.com. I have purchased things from each of these sights and they both have great service. good luck

I personally go with National Camera out of Minneapolis, there staff consists of several pro photographers. If you dont understand something theyll give you all the time in the world. They also give a 30 day no squabble guarantee and prices are the same as everyones, its a very competitive market. They also sell great used with the same guarantee.Buyer beware on low prices,I dont know how canon is but Nikon sells both domestic and foreign,You can buy foreign and save about 25% but you have no US warranty and will need to ship repairs overseas without any help, not only will this cost finacially but lose major time at the wrong.Things arent always as they seem.Do youre homework, the best price isnt always the best deal.Nikon Lover.Call them at1800-624-8107

Another vote for bhphotovideo.com. Canon is the same as Nikon with foreign and domestic as Jim said. The foreign is normally called gray market. Don’t believe a lot of the low prices places when you ask them if it is grey market. They like to lie about that until you get it. The other scam you will see at those places is they will tell you it is stock, charge your card then tell you it is backordered. Then it will take you a couple of weeks to get your money back. Either do a big online, the one mentioned, or look locally. Some local guys will match places like B&H, just ask.

Thanks for the tips. I read in one of the many I looked at last night that the price should drop after it has been out at least a year. They said this has happened with other Canon models. Does anyone know if this is true? I am want to get it now but would be willing to wait if it will save several hundred bucks that I could put towards a lense.

I would suggest looking into the New 30D.. it will be available shortly and has some improvements over the 20D.. It's actually being released with a retail price 100 less than the 20D was released at... I think it would be worth looking into for anybody looking at a new camera... I've bought from Dbuys.com with no trouble but usually buy anything now from BH Photo.

I have looked at the 30D and wonder if the improvements are really worth the added cost. Of course not knowing the shortcomings of the 20D make it hard for me to really compare. The price of the 20D has dropped another $200 since I first made this post. It is now $450 less than the listed price for the 30D. That is a whole other lense worth!

It may even drop further after the 30D comes out. You will also see a lot of 1 year old 20D for sale at good deals. Some people just need the new toys.
