This was our Trip to North Dakota this Year. We did pretty good. We got 113 ducks in 5 days. (4 Hunters) It was a blast!
On day 1 we sat in a funnel between a large body of water and a small slough where we saw many ducks the night before. We limited out.

On day 2 we hunted a HUGE body of water. The shooting was quick due to fog, fog still we managed to take our birds.

On day 3 we had a hard start. At noon we only had around 6 birds. Well we went to eat lunch an a small town resturaunt, and when we were done...a snow sqaul came, and the ducks just ate us up. It took us only an hour to fill the rest of our limit.

On day 4, we tried the spot we did on the first day. I did end up shooting a very nice drake Redhead and green winged teal, but it wasnt very hot. It was a sunny warm day, so we decided it would be best to jump potholes for the afternoon. We ended up getting 14 birds this day. ( a couple HUGE flight mallards!!)

Day 5 wasnt much different than day 4. We did a couple small stands and some jump shooting. 16 ducks and 1 goose finished off our trip.

We all need to cherish the family hunts. As we grow up, we tend to grow apart from our families. We do more hunting with our friends and less with family. I still look forward the yearly pheasant hunt that I go on with my Dad and brothers. This is the only family hunt that any of us have time for any more. It makes the hunt that much more special.
Thanks,
Mike Bard

That's a bunch of mush Rick.
Your father and brothers invited Travis, Eric, Christian and me on a dozen different hunts (they even invited Belding on 2 hunts), and they asked us not to tell you about any of them. We had a great time every time and piled up ducks, geese and pheasants. In fact, Eric and I hunted your stands at Bruce's two weekends that you stayed in Fargo, and I'm not going to tell you what we shot because you would cry.
Face it Rick, your family does not like you plain and simple.

Tom
You swore to secrecy on the hunts!
Rick just lost his RESIDENT hunting privilege's today as far as I'm concerned. His over night trip to South Dakota just put him out of compliance with the N.Daks. 6 month resident hunting law. He'll have to buy NR lic. now. Yup [I've been keeping track, yeseree.] He's a man "without a state" for Resident status.

did you guys have a place to hunt mapped out before you left? or did you just go and hunt public land?
Ryan Vande Griend
03-23-2006, 07:30 AM
hah we never shot over our limit. The limit is 6 ducks a peice. The 3ed day we have 27 birds b/c we got 3 mergansers on top of the 24 ducks ;)
We just go to a pothole dense area and hunt public land.
We did do a lot of lookin around on google earth to see which points would be good as for natural flyways ect...

DD, When did you go go to NoDak? What dates? I was in South Dakota at the end of October and it was a week or two to early, all the birds were up North still. I shouldn't say that, we found a bunch of birds, but it was nearly as cold as it should have been for the end of October and the birds were all piled up in huge bodies of water.
