Hello I have been reading other post and looking at a new call. But the choices are endless. and prices are cheep to 100's of dollars. So for example The Zink Hen power call comes in poly and acyrilic. what the difference beside the 100 buck. Pros and cons.
Most of my calls i get free from DU, Waterfowler.com and clearance. So having to pay $120 for a call is hard to swallow. But I enjoy duck hunting and will try anything to inprove the number of duck i kill. I tried a cocabola call this fall like you see them using on TV. But i sounded bad. Some call have great feed clucks, some can only quack or highball. But zink calls i here do it all. this $100 could buy me my FB mallard sleeper or rester for the fall.
PLease PLEASE Someone help me out on this. The pros and con of poly and acyrilic call, power hen. thanks for any advice. since i don't 100's of dollars to put into calls to sit in the junk drawer because i can't retun them after i buy and try in out.

RedBarren,

I promise you that you will be fine with the Poly Power Hen. It will run you around $29.99 and it sounds great. The sound board has been changed from last season and it has a ton of duck built into it. You will be able to purchase them at any of the Sportsman's Warehouse locations. There will also be a line of instructional DVDs and CDs by Zink Calls that may be very helpful to you. Try these out and let us know how they work for you.

Good Hunting!

I just spent 125 bucks on a call yesterday.. but I bought it for comp.
IMO in most hunting situations you'll be fine with a 20 dollar call that's poly. But if you really do want an acrylic, which the do sound alot better, go to a near by sporting goods store that carries acrylic calls and blow as many as possible before you pick one. But overall if your not going to be blowing in any comps and are a little tight on the hunting budget, stick with a poly power hen, or a duck commander call.. I love the sounds of some of his calls. Good luck,

Matt

There are alot of great calls out there in the range of 20-50 bucks. Buck Gardners Double Nasty is a very ducky call for 20-25 bucks.

For right now,I would go with a good poly call and get the dekes.

Jerry,

With the way that calls are made now, a $29 poly is as good as a $125 acrylic. The difference is going to come in sound and feel. With the acrylic you are going to get a much sharper cleaner sound and not to mention that this call will last a life time. You are also going to get a "smoother" feel with the acrylic than Poly. But on the other hand, the Poly Power Hen is a flat out awesome call. This call is made with double O rings and fits like a glove. The Poly has more rasp than the acrylic, but I will for sure have both of these calls on my lanyard this season...Good Luck!! Sean

You mentioned in the above post the the sound board was changed from last year. Could you please tell me what was changed and why? I know that I have both the acrylic and poly and the poly sounds deeper and not quite as much volume. Just wandering if this was why the change? Thanks

Forgive me but I just don't agree. I just don't think that poly calls are as good as Acrylic...heck, I know they aren't. Sure you can hunt with them and probably be fine but you sound like you want the best and want to have a call that you can get the most out of. Get a custom call! I'll explain....

Poly calls come from a mold and are all the same depending on the way the reed is cut. In other words, what you get is what you got. Custom calls are like fingerprints, they are all a little different no matter what. Sure they are cut off of the same jig but it is impossible to get the exact same cut every time. At first this may sound like a disadvantage and it might be if you aren't able to blow through a few before you purchase. BUT...if you can go to a dealer and blow through several of the calls, you will find a custom call that fits you. Not a call that you have to adjust to. The flip side to this is...if you are unable to get to a dealer and blow several custom calls before purchasing, you may be better off buying a poly until you can make time to do this. The Zink PowerHen is an awesome meat call, one that you can't go wrong with.

since i don't 100's of dollars to put into calls to sit in the junk drawer because i can't retun them after i buy and try in out.

Don't worry about being able to re-tune it because if it needs re-tuning all you have to do is send it back to the shop for re-tuning.
Before spending that much money on a call try some out at stores and shows unitl you find the one that fits you best. You're right about buying decoys with that money so don't waste it and try different calls. But acrylic will last a lifetime, something to think about. The Power Hen is very easy to operate, fits nicely in your hands and can do it all, feeding clucks, quacks and highballs. Good luck.

I agree. Both the poly and acrylic Power Hen sound awesome. My brother has the poly, and I really like the sound of it. You'll have some success with that call. As far as the difference in the sound, I don't think it is much. I heard the acrylic makes it sound a little better. I am thinking about buying a XR-2 hear in the near future. Heard those are awesome also.

Good luck.

I am with Christian on this. The acrylic has some serious advantages over poly. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH POLY, but, the acrylic is sharper, and louder, and I think you can do more with it. Really my only complaint with poly calls I have had in the past is that they just don't seem to last the way my acrylics have. Having said that, I have a Powerhen acrylic, and will be getting the poly version too. They are both great calls.

The Poly PH-1 is just as good as the acrylic. I on the other prefer the XR-2, so I won't get out as cheap as you. LOL!!

:p :) I can't thank you all enough. I think i will try a power hen poly for now unless there is a better call for around the same price. What you all like ?? the power hen was just and example.
And what does Ringer mean??? ""This call is not a ringer, but will get down and nasty with the best of them.""
And on the other hand Goose calls. I have a flute call and like it very well.
Got a HS short reed Goose call and trouble blowing it. Once i got it down ok.
the geese didn't seem to respond well to as much as the flute. boy can i cluck with the short reed. but they liked the long honks better. Is this just me or the call. and or what other goose calls do you suggest me tring. Is short better and are the differences the same with poly vs acrylic? Thanks so much. you all have been very helpful.
Now Get me some new dekes and will be set for the fall. My whole collection is now greenhead decoys. Just ebayed off all my carrylites and flambeo decoys late week to have money for all the new greenhead ones:p coming out.
Mallard sleepers FB, Buffs, Goldeneyes, lifesize floater goose. COOTS and maybe some feeder. basspro had Spoonies for $19.99 for 6, $25 delievered.
Can't beet that.
:) Thank you EBAY and Avery and everyone who posted and will post.:D
