Just kidding. It's Christian and Field at the SRS event this past weekend. Great job on the calls guys in Series 3. For a detail of the series 3 hunt, check it out here http://www.superretrieverseries.com/view.tpl?STORYID=11445957498034364.

What exactly are they doing?

I'm sorry if I'm out of the loop but I'm lost on this one

Aaron,

Read the link I put above the 2nd picture, it explains it really well. Field and Christian were a very important part of series 3 at this past weekends Super Retriever Series event.

So they were goose calling, duck calling, firing shotguns and giving high fives.... sounds like one heck of a good time! What does marks start falling mean? I'm sorry I know nothing about dog training...

Was there a purpose or was it just to break up the offseason?

a mark is a "downed bird" or bumper in this case. It is a place where the dog has to "mark" the bird in his mind as another falls out of the sky.

some of these guys, and ladies, take it very seriously, people train their dogs just to be world champions. and some just do it because they can

if i am wrong someone please correct me. this is just from what i understand. i hope this helped a little

Ross,

You are correct.

The Super Retriever Series is a competition based sport where the lowest score wins. SRS uses both hunt test and field trial scenerios to test the dogs and the judges are very open to setup a test as they see fit.

The link talks about series 3, which was a hunt test scenerio with a little added extras. Series 4 was a 380 yard single blind retrieve, definately more along the lines of a field trial.

You can see the SRS on tv on OLN, Sunday mornings at I believe 10:30am.

Everyone enjoyed the guys doing their thing. It also spiced up the competition with even more distraction for the dogs.

I have to say I had a blast. I could not belive my ears when Justin Tackett told me he wanted Christian and myself to yell at these trainers and their dogs to "hurry up" and "Get down". I mean I was screaming at some of the best dog trainers in the world to "get that dog down...we have birds coming". I was a little nervous at first but after the first couple dogs...I was screaming at the top of my lungs and having a blast.

Reason for the yelling... we were supposed to distract the dogs as much as possible. The trainer had to sprint to the line with a Finisher blind and a gun...then they had to get their dog to lay down and hold steady through about 30 seconds of wild calling and shouting. If the dog did not lay down then it would count against them. One dog started barking at us and then jumped clear over the blind. Over all though...I cannot begin to explain how impressive these dogs and handlers are. It is unreal how well these dogs are trained.

Well said Field. Some of the best gun dogs on earth couldn't do what these dogs that compete have to do in a normal day. They do a great job.

I wish I could see that sometime. Sounds like it would be a fun time. Will there be any events in South Dakota or nearby anytime soon?
