Hey i noticed that knight and hale makes tube goose calls and there pretty cheap but they dont have reeds so why couldnt someone just make one?

Anyone know how to and actually make it sound good?

Pro-Staffer Mark Hoke makes a real nice tube call for turkeys and geese. Send him a PM and I'm sure he can hook you up. He goes by Lacross, long story don't ask.

Why not just get a SR-1?

The tube style calls are actually very difficult to operate. When a person gets it down, the sound is unbelievable, but the volume is not there. I agree with Travis on the call.

Curt is right. If you have ever had the chance to listen to a great tube caller you would agree the are awesome but they are extremely difficult to learn. Also they are a short range call.
SR-1 or a Power Clucker are two great calls to try out.

Way back in the mid 80's that is the call I used. Again, goosey as can be but no volume. The short reeds out today sound very good with better controlled volume for hunting. I would never go back to the tube calls for geese anyway. Turkeys, well, thats a different storey!

The guys are right on when the say the tube call sounds awesome for waterfowl but lacks volume, that's because of the thick latex or reed as it is called. Now the turkey tube call some times uses a thinner and tighter latex which gives it more volume and higher pitch. A simple way to make a tube call would be to use a old film canister cutting out the bottom leaving a half moon opening for the latex to stretch across .Take a rubber band and loop it over the end to hold the reed. You can use a rubber latex glove or rubber ballon for your reed. Great for locating those hard to get gobblers.

Mark knows his tube calls. I have one of his turkey tubes and while I am hardly accomplished on it, I've heard Mark with it and they are very nice sounding.
