On April 22, 2006, the annual R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center Gala was held at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore Md. The R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and Maryland's Emergency Medical Service System have been a model for trauma systems through out the world.
This year's gala celebration was called A Night for Heroes. The gala celebrated two extraordinary patients and the first responders and trauma center staff that attended to the patients and their injuries. The night was a gathering of a number of state dignitaries and local personalities such as Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich Jr. and baseball great Cal Ripkin Jr.

Avery Pro-Staffer Rusty Hallock was one of the honorees and received a plaque along with other members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department for their involvement with a call that involved a teenager that suffered a severe head trauma. The highlight of the night was when the first responders and trauma center staff were reunited with the patients.
