Are you gonna throw on a surface drive or any other type of mud motor> I noticed you had the pods on the back, do they also help with a regular outboard motor>

Nice boat, Mike. Congrats on the new toy! I am sure it will serve its purpose and then some....

Iambenelliman - pods will add rear floatation to any boat, so I had them put on for the extra floation given 2-3 battries, fuel, motor myself, etc all sitting in the rear of the boat.

Looks good Mike. Its so big it makes that motor look like a 15 horse. Have you sea trialed it yet? Good luck with it.

Chris - I will get a blind for it come closer to the season
Jimmy - It's a Beavertail 2072 (actually the paper work calls it a Blue Rock Duck Boat).
Dave - I just got it registered this morning and will put the stickers on it tonight after work...so I'm hoping to get it wet this weekend. This will not be going to Lakeview. This should haul plenty of decoys for the bigger lakes though.

How did it go Mike? Did it perform as you had hoped it would?

You'll be wishing you had a bigger motor when its loaded & you get in the wind ! Nice boat. I like the big open middle.

Well I had it out over the weekend with 4 adults and 5 kids... although I forgot my gps in the truck, we ran it throught the initial break in and then started testing things out a bit. It got right up and went with no problems with a slight breeze and a little chop on the water. I don't think I'll be racing bass boats, but it will be fine for hunting, fishing, and taking the family out.
The extra tall side walls we nice to keep kids in and water out. There was plenty of room for 4 more adult easy.
As for the motor, with the load I had, it pushed the boat fine. I am somewhat concerned about the motor size myself, TxHonker, so I will be sure to put it through all the tests this summer, before taking it out loaded down in late season. I inquired about a 75 and even a 90 when purchasing the boat, but the dealer insisted that a 60 would be more than enough motor. We'll see.

Mike
I think you will be fine with the 60,I had a 90 on my 20 foot crestliner and while duck hunting dont think I ever ran it full speed. As long as it plains off with the load you put in it your fine. Not to many people want to run 50mph when it 20 degrees with a 25mph head wind .I know I dont any ways.Good luck. And congrat.

Thanks Jimmy - I hear you on not needing the super speed, too many things out there to hit in the dark as well.

Mike,
I have a 50 on my Lowe 1960 and it is plenty of motor for the boat. I have used it several seasons on the bay. It has no problem with 3 hunters, a dog and decoys.

I've got a 60 on my 1860 War Eagle and she performs admirably on the Chesapeake and her tributaries...

Thanks guys - I was a little sketchy about the decision, but figured the manufacture of the boat knew what he was talking about.

I have a 2072 War Eagle w/ a 115hp Four stroke on it. It works great. We still run in shin deep water. But when we have 5 dozen duck decoys along with 3-4 Fb's & 3 dozen floaters with 3 guys gear & a dog the motor comes in handy. My boat also has tall sides & we pile it full. Im sure you'll get along alright but when its windy & we are loaded the big motor is sure nice. There has been many times we were the only one that even crossed the lake on bad days. Sometimes I wish I had the 150 ! We usally run about 35-37mph when we are empty, but when you load it up w/ the blind on it , it will only run about 28 maybe 30 if the winds not blowing ! Good luck ! Im sure you'll love hunting out of the boat !
