As we all know the recent jump in gas prices, I don't think they will ever come back down. I was thinking today about how much of an impact high gas prices will have on my hunting. I’ve been thinking about ways to save extra money just for gas. How if at all will this have on your hunting? I know a lot of guys who travel all over the U.S. every year chasing waterfowl. Like all hobbies hunting is expensive, this will only pile on the costs! So I hope you all give your opinion on the gas prices, and tell how much it is in your area, and give some ideas for saving extra money for gas! I would like to know! Here in Great Bend, KS gas is $2.81 today, in Holyrood, my home town gas is $2.71. Please reply! Thanks

If I were to slow down and not get on all my trips, then you could just as well put a fork in me. Unfortunately I will pay what I have to to get down the road to the next spot. It irritates a person to see the increase in prices, then have to see some jerky with the big oil company's pocket full of my jack. It's waterfowling and I will do what it takes, just going to have to add a little bit more this year to the hunting fund.

It may affect how many fields we pump up this fall but I will still go just as much as I can. We spent almost $20,000 in fuel last year pumping water.

Zach, the gas prices here in Maryland are any where from the 2.80's-3.10's.I know its going to be hard on my wallet this year.I guide in Nodak and Texas.I travel along way pulling a trailer. And I burn about a tank of fuel a every two days while hunting and scouting. But what can I do, nothing but pay it and do what I love to do. Chase waterfowl, as they say PRICELESS !

I agree that it wont slow me down, theres really not much to do except shake your head and start the pump. Your're gonna pay it, but you cant notice the dent it puts in your pocket book. One thing for sure im not fishing much this summer, im taking 2 big trips and thats it! Keep em coming boyz!!

I am saving up extra just to get where I want to go. They know we will pay it...that's the problem.

Gas right now has been about 2.85 . We all worry about it but when the season gets here most of us will go anyway. Think about it, last year it was in the 2.20 range anyway. So at the 100 gallon mark thats only $65.0 more. That just means you'll have to shoot better or make your own lunch & not stop at the cafe.

Its not the fact they know we will pay it. Its the fact they know we have to have it!!

Man I am glad I am not fishing the tournament trail anymore. Used to spend about six to eight grand on fuel annually. Now my buddies are up to three times that amount in fuel bills!

Between gas prices and the passport situation, it might spell the end of trips to Canada for me...

In an unrelated deal... I saw a pair of pheasants out this weekend. Man did that rooster look sharp in his spring plumage. He took off before I could get a photo for the site though!!

Last, year the gas prices hit us hard. I only harvested 89 ducks last year where as for the three years previous I was over 200 per season. This year gas here is sitting at $3.15 a gallon and I have seen it as high as $3.45. I told myself if gas was at or over $3 a gallon I won't even hunt waterfowl this year. I will still buy my Archery Elk tag, but that's it. With my wife working 60 miles away and having to drive our son back and forth to school, baseball, soccer, what little money we had left over each month to play with is completely eaten up by fuel. :(

As an outfitter -yes, gas will affect our hunting and scouting - the price of gas must then be transfered down to the customer in order for us to continue to make any type of profit. The snow goose guides will feel the pain even more than us. This is when it helps to have a good network of fellow hunters and guides that we can rely on to provide accurate scouting reports. Even gas prices up to 4 or 5 bucks wouldnt keep me from the field however.

Brookings South Dakota $2.79. I think that gas prices affect all hunters. But its what we all love to do and we just have to save extra money too do it.

Great posts guys, I would agree that gas prices alone wouldnt keep me out of the field but it will limit how far i go to chase them. All hobbies are expensive but the hunt most go on!
