I guess I am directing this question mainly at Tony and Tyson on this one, did you guys ever figure out the magical number of decoys one could get by with? Saw the article in the DU and again the pictures of the birds and the spread are awesome, Just figured since I read about this in the article I would see if they figured out a number as of yet.

We never really settled on a magic number so to speak. We killed them over 300-1700 fullbodies. The birds worked just as good over smaller spreads as they did the big spread. I would say the majority of the geese were killed over 400-600 fullbodies. Thanks.

Thanks Tony, I have 8 dozen right now and hopefully I will have around 12 to 15 dozen by the time I go to Saskatchewan this fall, I have full bodies of all kinds, I have bigfoots, hardcores, but these avery dekes are the cats meow for snows. I used just thirty one day this spring, due to sloppy wet fields I had to carry them in and decided set up right off a slough bottom alongside an old prairie trail and I decoyed flocks from 3 birds up to flocks of several hundred and ended my morning with 15. They are the best decoys I have used, thanks so much.

Glad to hear you liked the decoys and they worked for you! You should have a ball up north with them! Let us know how it goes.

cgreeny,

That sounds like a pretty good hunt over a small Snow Goose spread. As Tony stated, it seemed that the larger spreads had great pulling power but the birds did not decoy any better than over a smaller spread. The best decoying days were over the 400-600 spread. Later in the season, some of my good friends tried a spread of about 300 and did VERY well. Hopefully next year we will have more answers. I am sure you will see results with the spread that you are working on.

Thanks, Tyson Keller

Tyson, I just got married two weeks ago, and she didn't think my pickup full of more boxes of decoys was what we needed right now, wait til she passes her hunter safety and comes with this fall. it will quiet her right down when I let her rip into the first bunch that sucks into the spread. One day i will work my way up to 300 or 400 but I will just stick it out with 8 dozen and windsocks for now, i will pray for the lucky powerball numbers though! Thanks for the replies!
