Avery Pro-Staffer Kevin Addy Finishes 2nd in ABA Tournament

On 4/30 Thirty nine teams took part in the ABA Bass tournament on the Potomac River in Maryland. The weather wasn’t all that bad, a little breezy, but not unbearable. Of the teams competing 79.5% brought fish to the scales.
The team of Skeeter Lloyd & David Stewart brought 21.82 pounds to the scales, edging out 2nd Place team of Kevin Addy and Ed Hargraves by .28 of a pound, to take 1st Place and $1,680.00.
The team of Addy and Hargraves stated it’s tough to lose by such a small margin. We were one fish short of a limit and had a fish that was too close to take a chance. (The bass in Maryland need to be 15 inches or larger this time of the year). We practiced for 2 days and with the weather calling for wind on Sun, made the decision to go north to an area that would be protected from the NE winds.
We spent most of the day near Washington DC. We had a place further north that would give up a few keeper fish but never made it there. We talked over leaving the place we were fishing to secure a limit further north but the tide was about to turn and the quality fish needed to win the tournament should bite.
The time came for the tide to turn but the wind held it up. We never got the tide change before it was time to make the 20+ mile run back. We fished for the win and if one of our fish ate another shad before we caught it, the outcome might have been different.
Tournament fishing is a game of decisions, you make the right ones and you do well, you make the wrong ones and you look forward to next year.
