I've got a question for those guys that have side doors and barn style doors on their trailers. The combination of cold weather, wind and high stubble is very hard on my plastic trailer door catches. (The ones that are used to hold the doors open.) Has anyone tried using steel rods with balls welded/built up on the end? My neighbour welded me up a set in stainless steel. I think they will work, but was wondering if any can see any downsides that I'm not seeing.
Thanks!

When I have had the plastic pieces break in wind/extreme cold, it has been the bracket itself. Might want to see about getting metal brackets. I have had the bracket break 3 times.

Mike, the ones on my trailer are the "body and head" style. They work great in any condition. Mine are made out of some material that feels like half rubber, half plastic. I will check at the trailer store for ya and give you the name of them. However, if it is a big problem, I would probably go with metal.
