Yesterday it was geese amongst the mountains, today it was Mallards and spoonies on the coast. Some of you's wanted to see a pic of a southern shoveler

Paul, with the spectacular scenery, great gunning and diversity of species of waterfowl I only have one question.....are you taking reservations for next season? :D Well done and thanks again for sharing! I for one, am truly impressed with the quality of waterfowl hunting in kiwi-land. Keep 'em coming!

What is the reputation of Shovelers in New Zealand? Do most hunters like to harvest them? Do they eat well? Do you have any pictures of some of them with the Greenhead Gear Shoveler Decoys? I would love to see a mount with three or four of these standing on some driftwood. Keep up the great work!
Good Hunting!

They make up a important part of the coastal or big water hunters bag in some areas. Others mainly pond hunters take them as a bonus bird or leave them all together.Because they are native limits are quite conservative, in my region we can only take 2 a day
They are considered great eating birds by many, I love to eat them. I have heard that there northern cousins are not so good a eating??
