On Sunday August 27th, Avery Pro-Staffers Patrice ”Pat” Picard and Jocelyn “Josh” Léger, were invited to give a waterfowl hunting seminar at the Gander Mountain Store in Plattsburgh, New York. The store manager Jamie Wolfe, had made arrangements with Josh in order to organize this event, and it was advertised in the store a few weeks prior to the event.

Mr. Wolfe supplied Avery Pro-Staffers with a very nice conference room, to give the seminar. Avery Pro-Staffers displayed a wide variety of Avery/GHG gear, which was found on the store shelves, to decorate the conference room and promote Avery/GHG products.

During the 2˝ hour long seminar, Josh and Pat shared waterfowl hunting knowledge with other passionate waterfowlers from all levels, from beginners to very experienced. Most aspects of waterfowl hunting were covered, such as puddle duck hunting, diving duck hunting, sea duck hunting, Canada goose hunting, snow goose hunting, biology, bird patterns and behavior, scouting, what to look for when scouting, decoying birds, observations versus decoy numbers and patterns, concealment of hunters, and various tips resulting from Josh and Pat’s extensive field observations.

Josh also gave an overview on calling different waterfowl species, such as Mallards, Canada geese and Snow geese, and took time to tune calls that customers had brought to the seminar. Pat and Josh took all the time needed to answer all questions from the audience, and most of time one question was leading to another, but they made sure to give an honest answer to the best of their knowledge each time, and made sure that everyone enjoyed the seminar, and was taken care of.

There was also an educational part in the program, about supporting organizations such as DU and Delta Waterfowl, as well as local organizations, because as hunters we take something from nature, so we need to give something back, like volunteering in nesting programs and others, or by donations. Other subjects included: Respect of regulations, respect of the game we are pursuing, skybusting, etc …

Be a happy hunter, enjoy all aspects of a hunt, setting up decoys, great sunrise, good companionship, good calling, dog work, pictures, etc … after all: pulling the trigger is the easiest part of all …
