View Full Version : Opening Day teal hunt

Went the the varsity football game last night and got home at about 12 and went straight to the lake. The only bad part was that we didn't have to beat anyone to our spots so that was a waste of sleeping time. Well got there and set up all decoys and sat on bank for about 3 1/2 hours. We couldn't sleep because we were too excited and the teal were abselutley going nuts at 1-2 am in the morning.(exact opposite because they usually go crazy when its time to shoot.) My guess is the full moon had them up feeding the whole night. WEll when shooting time roll around nuthin seen except for a few groups then 30 mins. in the hunt the first teal of the year fell dead to my dad's benelli. About an hour into the hunt i finished my limit off with 2 blue wing hens, 1 blue wing drake, and 1 green wing drake. I only shot 7 shells all morning so as u can tell we didn't have many shots. waited 2 more hours to see if my dad and his friend could finish their limits but the teal just weren't cooperating and the sorry shots they had led the to : my dad 3, dad's friend 2. In all wasn't a bad day but the teal were acting wierd! well hope you enjoy the pictures! Good luck!

Thats some pretty impressive shooting Kyle!

I don't know how you identify anything with their non breeding plumage and supersonic fight speed. You must have some tricks to ID those little things because I know I wouldn't be able to...

It's crazy to me that there is teal in TEXAS already....my brother and I went out this morning had a good hunt too!

Was the fact that not only are there Teal in TX already... But Pintail too... I had one group of 6 doing the "Pintail Swing" over the Teal dekes on Sunday... I am definatly adding a 4 pack of Pintail FB's to the spread before big duck season...
