This morning was the opener for the teal season in Arkansas. We went out to hold the spot a little too early but it payed off in the end. Despite some very aggravating early shooters practically blowing most of the teal up 30 min. berfore shooting light we had a good morning. Shooting hours are sopposed to be sunrise untill sunset not 30 min berfore sunrise. But the game wardens were out in full force and I believe that the offenders were caught.
3 of us shot 3 limits 12 teal before my two buddies had to go to class. Then a couple of other friends of mine that were on the other end of the island came over and try to fill their limits out. All in all we shot 18 teal of one spot. Plan on going in the morning again. Wonder how many people will be out tomorrow since its a saturday. Cross our fingers and hope we can get the spot again. Here are some pics of the morning. Hope you enjoy.

Good post, river reaper. Glad y'all got in on some teal this morning.
Double check on those shooting times. 30 minutes before sunrise is legal for migratory birds.

Rob, in Arkansas, legal shooting time for Teal during the early season is sunrise and not 30 minutes before sunrise, like most states and seasons. I don't know why Arkansas does this, but it not fun to wait on sunrise.

Fellas believe me after many teal seasons here in Arkansas I know that shooting hours are at sunrise not 30 min before like our regular duck season and it kills us to watch em land all morning. they say that its this way so hunters can distinguish teal from woody hens, and shovlers but take my word for it at 6:35 we had about 50+ teal in the GHG's and we knew they were teal. Wish the game and fish would change that rule. Coulda been done in about 30 min.
Yea check out all the greenwings hard to believe but in a early teal season that we normally see alott more blue wing we only shot 3 blues and the rest were green wingers. As far as going early I have never been known to be afraid of early. Dont plan on going out as early for tomorrow but we wont be too far behind. good luck to all going out tomorrow.
Scott Turpen, you ask NO GEESE WHATS THE DEAL?? wish I could shoot geese in our early teal season like other states. Will have to wait untill Sep 30 for the honkers but believe me we are more than ready.
Thanks for the compliments on the hunt and pics guys.

Here in Illinois where I live and hunt shooting hours for teal are sunrise to sunset . At our club we own we would be shooting a lot of immature wood ducks if it were not for this because were hunting a beaver swamp its tough to i.d. especially when there are hundreds of woodies getting up.

Ahhh...it's a state-specific ruling. I didn't know that. We have no such rule in MS for early teal, but we had to wait 15-20 minutes after shooting time Friday before it was light enough to distinguish teal from shovelers.

yeah guys, in the regular duck season, shooting hours is thirty minutes before, for some weird reason, things change during the teal season and its at sunrise....i dunno why.
